History Channel - Save Our History - Lighthouses! - 04/02/02 02:52 AM

This listing is for the History Channel. Should be interesting!

American Lighthouses
They lit the path to a brave new world and led the way to safe harbors as they warned of dangerous coastlines. They welcomed ships carrying precious cargo and new citizens to the fledgling country. But today, many American lighthouses face grave danger. While heroic efforts by concerned preservation groups and local governments have saved some, many are perilously close to being lost forever. Host Josh Binswanger looks at efforts to protect these beautiful and historic American treasures. TV G

"Host Josh Binswanger"

I think he's the one who sounds like Howard Cosell?

Thanks Suzanne!

The History Channel was supposed to go out to Cedar Point County Park in late February to tape a segment in front of the Cedar Island Lighthouse. I never heard whether they actually did it or not.

Thanks for the post Suzanne! Maybe this will shed more "light" on the perils of many of our country's lighthouses. Many people need to be aware of our great treasures!

The show just started, but a storm is approaching and my satellite coverage just was interupted. Thunderstorms and Tornado Watch. No History channel now. Guess I will watch it tomorrow night.

I thought this was a great show and very well-done. I enjoyed seeing quite a few familiar faces: Bruce Roberts, Tim Harrison, Ken Black, Cullen Chambers, Dick Moehl, and others.

Visit the History Channel's website and check out the Teachers Guide.

Yes I thought so too. Hopefully it will make more people aware of the plight of so many of our lighthouses. And it was neat to see our Navy Pier game playing Eagle Scout had a prominent role in the St. Helena segment!

Just so everyone is aware, St. George Reef had it's lantern room successfully reattached about two weeks ago. It's not quite as forlorn looking as was shown on the special.

And I agree that the show was well done. History Channel does high quality work.

Thanks for the update Rich. Glad to hear things are progressing. It sure looks like a very difficult job. Got to give a lot of credit to those people giving of their time an effort.
