Hey Bill, do you recall where you saw this program...? I'm heading down there in July and would love to see the show before I go...

Jeff if your going to the Dry Tortugas you should try and camp for a weekend at Fort Jefferson. Flying and boating in for the day is nice but to really experience the Tortugas you need to be there for a couple of days to go exploring, diving, etc.

imho

I'll just tack this one onto oseabee's as it has to do with the Travel Channel. Last night I.O. and I were watching a show about survival. One segment told the story of a man who left the Canary Islands in 1984 on a return voyage in his small sailboat across the Atlantic. Part way there his boat was punctured and he had to abandon it for his raft. He had his survival gear which included a device for turning salt water into drinking water, among other items. He had water and shot fish for food. After a bit the spear from his gun puctured his raft. Things were pretty bad until he figured out a way to stop the leak. At one point he saw a ship in the distance which did not see him. He made a sextant out of three pencils to check his course and fortunately he was heading for the West Indies. After 72 days he spotted a lighthouse and it was then that he knew he'd made it. He celebrated by drinking a pint of water! The next day he finally reached shore after losing 1/3 of his body weight.

Hmmm. I could do that diet, but I'd need to be out on the Ocean for 113 days.

I saw the program on the Travel Channel. They have some great shows. Usually I pick them up while "surfing" the channels. The story about the Florida Keys was a very interesting one.
