Is it cheating?

Photoshop allows for the manipulation of images to such as extent that one could change the season, the weather or just about anything in a photograph.

But negatives and photographs have been retouched for years.

So, here are two images of the same shot. The original and a retouched version.

I cropped the image slightly, removed the cars parked in the foreground, covered some signs with 'bushes' and removed some telephone and power lines as seen below:

Colors were also intensified in the middle image and the image was sharpened through Photoshop.

And yes, that's Pam Cook and 'Twiggy' in front of the lighthouse.

So are these modified images 'fair'? Or should I have 'removed' Pam and Twiggy, too?

You can leave Twiggy in the picture... he still had "clean" clothes on unlike the next day's bus trip....

I have no experience with Photoshop. What is the latest software? Is it hard to use? What does it cost?

I really like the fact you can turn a regular photo into a super photo. I would describe that as creativity, not cheating.

Making that flag fly in the other direction was the hardest part, Mark.

Photoshop costs $600 for the latest version 6.0. Available for Mac or PC (and other platforms).

Just before departing, the 103 people on the bus each donated 10 minutes of volunteer time for a total of 1,030 minutes or 17+ hours. That including putting the bike rack back in place, etc.

The bus just acted as a lawn roller while we smoothed out some critter bumps.

I like the ability to be able to take out stuff, like people and wires, signs. Unless you visit a popular light during a hurricane or snowstorm chances are you will not be there alone. Also those wires and signs certainly are modern day additions to what was never intended to be at a lighthouse.

Chances are most of the pictures you see from professional photographers have also been tampered with a bit.

With the ability to remove people it wouldn't be necessary to yell at them very loudly from cruise boats to "GET OUT OF THE WAY! That was way funny.

With the plethora of truly fine photos posted here in the forums, altered or no, we seem to have the best of both worlds - those sorta ok shots we take and put in our photo albums plus quality shots taken and posted here on the big screen to admire. Thank you all!
