Fourth Grade Presentation in Sag Harbor NY???

OK, one of you Long Island Lighthouse Lovers...

I've received a request from a teacher who wonders if there is anyone who might speak with their class. They've been studying lighthouses and looking up information on the Internet.

I don't have a date, but if one of you would be willing to spend an hour or so, I think it would be great PR for lighthouses. I would say it probably would need to be early next week (Feb 7-9)

If you email me with your willingness, I'll forward the messages between the teacher & I.

I bet there are a lot of HL folks who would be glad to go to that classroom if airfare is included.

Tell them to contact Merle Wiggin 631 477-2121, he is doing a presentation on Shelter Island in February and does many presentations for school children in Southold on a regular basis at the East End Lighthouse Museum in Greenport. Tell the teacher to use my name as a reference.

I think that what you're doing is GREAT! I'm in the process of putting together a presentation, here, in Martinsville. Its my way of promoting LH preservation since I live so far away from any "lights" and can't roll up my sleaves and "get involved" as much as I'd like to. I find that kids who live closer to the coasts have atleast some exposure to the "lights" from time to time, whereas kids who live hours (or days) away have virtually no knowledge of whats going on because the interest just isn't there. Its not because they don't care....its just a case of "outa sight---outa mind". With all the wonderful LH videos that are out, plus some great books, etc. even someone like me can provide a reasonably interesting one-hour presentation....without having to "strain the brain"....LOL Good Luck to all who decide to give this a try!!

"One" of the wonderful things about the Cape Hatteras "move" was that it received some darn good National attention, including alot of kids, who, normally wouldn't have given it much thought one way or the other. We can continue to "seize" on that historical moment and promote the on-going value of our wonderful "Lights". (Oops....I'm off my soapbox, now....'sorry 'bout that..)
