Lighthouses on the move.

I must admit I'm totally unfamiliar with how many lighthouses have been successfully moved to preserve them. The only moves I'm familiar with are Highland Light (Cape Cod Light), Southeast Light on Block Island, and Cape Hatteras.

Do you know of other lights that were relocated to save them from crashing into the sea or other body of water? Were the moved lights once again relit or were they designated as a tourist attraction at a safer location?

Hey Bob,

Nauset Beach was another lighthouse that was successfully moved in recent years. There are numerous others that have been moved since they were originally built!

Belle Tout lighthouse at Beachy Head in Sussex, England was moved earlier this year.

Jeffrey's Hook (The Little Red Lighthouse} was moved from North Hook (Sandy Hook NJ) to its present lacation in 1921.

Not only was Nauset moved to keep it from falling into the sea, but it was also relit. Still looks good. I managed to get down to see it this summer.

Colchester Reef.

Cape Vincent Breakwater, Cape Vincent, New York was relocated to the entrance of the town in front of the town offices. This small 15 foot light was one of two which served for over 50 years on a stone pier into the St. Lawrence River.

Cape Mendocino, California was moved recently to Shelter Cove, Ca. It was in terrible shape and I have not heard if the repairs have been made or if it is available for viewing yet.
