I just got back from a snowshoe adventure to Rock Island. Of course the main purpose of my adventure was to get some photos of our clubs adopted lighthouse in the winter. I'm still working on a story, but if you wish to view some of the images go to Photopoint.com and under visit albums type Keeperjj@aol.com and look for Winter Adventure. What an Adventure!

I see that Jim took the ferry to Washington Island. What I want to know is how did he get to Rock Island? Jim - Did you snowshoe accross the lake?

Tim, Tim, Tim,
I left the inflatable at home. Anyone that goes up to Rock Island in the winter isn't a wus. I'm a WACKO, not a saint. I have to wait for the water to freeze before I can walk on it.
Suzanne, I took the car ferry to Washington Island and then walked about a mile across the ice and then up to the lighthouse.

Tim Sweet, President of FORI and I are roped together in case one of us would go through thin ice, the other can pull them out. Here we are facing east, yes that is open water in the background. The harbor was frozen but just south of the spit, it was very open water. We will be going again next year providing the ice is thick enough. All are welcome to join us on the winter adventure. C'mon Tim,don't be a wus. Hope to see both of you at the meeting on the 25th.

Thats the picture I was waiting to see. All the photos in your photo album seemed to be missing your feet. I wanted to see those snowshoes!

Hey Jim, this is a truly a "winter adventure". Would love to accompany you on a trip in the future. Although not likely, you never know?
Keep up the good work!

Nice pics Jim. I was wondering how you got over to Rock Island. Didn't think the Park Service had an ice breaking ferry! I look forward to getting back up to Pottowatamie Light this year, hopefully for a work day, but with a new baby, who knows.
