Beach Apparatus Drill/Portsmouth Island Homecoming - 05/01/08 05:13 PM

Hello all! Last month, the Beach Apparatus Drill Team from USCG MLB Station Hatteras Inlet performed the breeches buoy drill on Portsmouth Island, NC. This was the first time since 1937 that the drill was done on the abandoned, isolated island. The National Park Service and the Friends of Portsmouth Island had the USLSS Station completely restored to it's early 1900s condition.

It was truely an honor to be there! Check it out:

There is a great slide show on there. Notice the firing of the Lyle Gun and the shot!

Thanks for the link to the slideshow. The CG drill was of particular interest.

It looks like everyone ate well...the folks in NC always put on quite a spread for a homecomin' smile

Hey Erik,

Thanks for sending that link. Great stuff!

I'll be going to NC again this year with the family. Hope to be able to meet up with you this time...1st week in August if we're lucky! Do you have any updates on Chicamocomico LSS since the lightning strike? Are they back in operation?
