Chicamacomico Becoming a Living History Site!

Visits to Chicamacomico LSS just keep getting better and better! The 2006 season brings life to the restored station with talented (and entertaining )interpreters and more.

The historic buildings relocation project is completed, and the 1907 Midgett House relocated to the site last year will be open this season and serve as a focal point to give visitors a view of family life on Hatteras in the 1900's.

Planning a trip to the NC Outer Banks this year? Make time to visit Chicamacomico LSS in Rodanthe, opening for the season in mid April.

Chicamacomico is a great place to visit. Unfortunately, the times I have been there have not been on days they were doing the USLSS drills as I would love to see them done. Docents at the station have always been very friendly and knowledgeable.

If I were asked where my love of lighthouses began, I'd have to say at Chicamacomico LSS. We vacationed for many years in and around the Cape and went to see the "drill"--as Dave referenced. I was so taken by the what and why and how to that I gave Stan a membership and bought a few T-shirts. He still has the T-shirts (everybody wants to know how to pronounce the name). We have pictures taken many years ago of the Cape lights and I'm hoping to get back there for a vacation sometime soon. Our pictures show a nicely-restored site, but they're probably 10- to 20-years-old. Must see it again.

They stopped doing the drills several years ago, and they've been greatly missed- I think board politics had something to do with it. They hope to be allowed to resume them this season, and I so hope they will be able to.

Grace, we should have time to stop there. It's a place you can spend a lot of time enjoying, but we will need to be more brief. It will still be a good stop.

Sandy, I joined on my first visit too. It just is such a wonderful place.
