Will Eaton's Neck and Old Field Point be part of this year's event? I didn't notice them on the site, but I know they were (with issues) part in years past.

I'm especially interested in seeing Eatons Neck - which seems otherwise difficult - so if that were on the challenge again, it'd definitely give me added impetus to do it.

If Eaton's neck is not part of the challenge call up the coast guard and ask if you can make an appointment. They are really nice about it and I was let in to take pictures.

Not looking good.

I did Old Field last year with a small group of 5 at about 7pm on the Friday before the Challenge with no problem. We were quick and didn't walk around the front facing the Sound. This is an impossible angle anyway for a full shot. Don't forget the Nantucket in Oyster Bay. You can drive right into an adjoining park.

I'm planning on being there. Think I have it all figured out. Gas prices and all...it's worth it!

Just need to figure out where to stay Sat night, which is the big thing. (Have to call my dad's friend who has a house in Amagansett to see if I can at least borrow their driveway.)

Where would I be able to find you, Bob? I think you mentioned Cedar Island, which, with my current plan, could end up as either on Sat or Sun, depending on how my North Shore leg works out.

Sat I'll be at Cedar Island with Harry from 10-3. Sunday at Huntington same times. Hope to see you Greg.

We had spectacularly beautiful weather on Saturday, and the rain held up on Sunday for a great lighthousing weekend.
Harry was a blast to have as a guest!
And we generated some good things for Long Island Lighthouses.
Especially neat was a 8 year old boy I met who knew all the Long Island Lighthouses. A future LIChapter President. towel

Yep. laugh

Got into the carpark at Fire Island at 5:53...ran down the boardwalk...ran in the door, magnets in hand, at 5:58.

To find they were staying open late...

It required cutting the walk out to Cedar Island, and my alternate viewpoint for Long Beach Bar. But we're going on our annual sailing trip out of East Hampton next month, and need a test-sail to make sure my dad's friend's boat is working right. So we're going to try to redo the sails while going west.

Also had to rush at Montauk, but I wasn't planning on climbing, having done so already. And, tip: if you're pressed for time, take the OLD highway...I got down it much faster, since it seems fewer people use it.

It was an adventure, let me tell you. I'm almost done with the blog for my website, which I'll post here when I'm done.

But all in all, a VERY well put together event, and a nice way to almost finish off Long Island and Long Island Sound.

Sorry I missed you, Greg. Now you have some reasons to come back. Did you camp at Cedar Point Park? I guess not if you didn't walk out? Harry & I walked out about 230 pm. It was a brilliant day for the sun but very windy. I took Harry out to Montauk Point about 530 Saturday then we ate at Gosmans about 630.

Sailing past Cedar Island LH and Long Beach Bar LH are excellent alternatives. They are both meant to be seen from the water.
