Super Bowl and the Coast Guard

Jacksonville as super bowl city had one major crisis.
Where to house all the fans. Well somebody had a brilliant idea.
Bring in Cruise ships.



Jacksonville now has 5-cruise ship docked along its riverbanks.
But before they could bring them in. They all had to be inspected and checked for bombs. The coast guard met the cruise ships before they could enter Jacksonville. There, a team of coastguard skin divers inspected the bottom of each ship. Then they were then escorted up the St Johns to Jacksonville.



As the cruise ships are docked they are being constantly watched and guarded by the coast guard. The police boats are out in full force and also the homeland security boats. The homeland security ships are constantly monitoring the shores of Jacksonville with infrared cameras.I just thought I would share this with you. If you were like me you may not have dreamed that the Coast guard would be involved with protecting the cruise ships.

Very cool photos, especially for me! I think Seven Seas Navigator is one of those 5-star ultra-luxury small ships...the pinnacle of cruising.

However, I must tell you that the Coast Guard is VERY involved with protecting cruise ships, especially up here in NYC. When you get the Norweigan Dawn or the Adventurer of the Seas or (of course) Queen Mary 2 filled with thousands of people into America's largest and most secure city, than you've got some load to protect.

In April, I was on the NJ side of the Hudson to watch QE2 and QM2 leave NEw YOrk together. Even across the river, the buzz of USCG and NYPD boats and helicoters was amazing.

Even on regular departures, the USCG is always there, their boats zipping back and forth amongst the sterns of ships. You can always see the orange and white craft. Trust me, the USCG is definitely protecting these ships. There's just too precious a cargo these days aboard a 140000 ton liner to not.
