Welcome to the new USCG thread!

Here's hoping this new thread will bring some Coasties aboard. Maybe a few former members (I know there is not such thing as an ex-Coastie) might come by to visit.

Since I've posted the first topic at this new thread, I'll ask if any of you ever met a Coastie by the name of Thomas Smith a.k.a. "Smitty". He entered the USCG is '65 and stayed until his 4-year hitch was up. I still remember his service number: 354119. He spent a couple of years stationed in Hawaii and traveled to Japan, New Zealand, Austrailia, Anartica, etc. He later went into the Merchant Marines and sailed everywhere around the world. He was also a member of the USCG Reserve out of St. Pete in FL. He just retired from that about a year or so ago.

Smitty and I have been friends since we were four years old. He lives in Citra, FL now.

Anybody ever cross paths with him?

Sorry Bob, I beat you by two minutes on making the 1st post on this new Forum(and it's only fitting that a Coastie should make the 1st post). I don't know the man your talking about but Citra is only 15 miles north of Ocala. I'll have to look him up in the phone book and give him my regards.

Looks like a good, new forum to add.
I'm not a "coastie" but I once taught and coached a young man, Mark Case, who went to the CG Academy, and eventually returned there to teach math.
If all "coasties" are like Mark then it is a truly dedicated service. Thanks!!!!!

Welcome everyone to this new forum. I am very happy to be asked to be moderator of it. A real honor indeed. I will do my best to keep this a very active forum. Anyone who has any ideas to make this forum better either post it on the forum or e-mail me with your suggestions.
