Happy Birthday to MY UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AT 220 YEARS OLD on August 4th! "We have done so much with so little for so long, we will continue to do everything, with nothing, forever" is the unofficial Coast Guard motto.

Not a career Coastie, but I served from 1966 to 1969 with the USCG.

That counts, Larry. 3 of those guys stayed long enough to retire, don't think Hal did. He, I do believe, spent some time on lightships.

I would like to add my Happy Birthday wishes also for 220th Birthday of the Coast Guard.
I served from 1951 to 1954 and was assigned to lightship duty aboard the Scotland and Overfalls

Even though the 4th was the actual birtday, a good portions of the celebrations will be held tomorrow(Saturday) so all the families can attend. I know they are having a big shindig at the St. Augustine Lighthouse for the Coast Guard this weekend. Food, drinks, games, the open tower, etc. and it's all free. I was going but the month of August is just too darn hot for me.

Welcome, Lampman, and thanks for your service. With 12 years of lighthouse duty I would imagine you will have some interesting stories to share.

Lampman - Give us a brief history of where you served. I also spent a total of 23 years in the Navy(4 1/2 years) and Coast Guard(18 1/2 years). Most of my time was shipboard, SAR, Isolated and Headquarters.

Lampman, I too would love to hear all about your years as both a Coastie & a Keeper.
