New respect for the job they do! - 04/12/07 11:33 PM

Just returned from an 11 day cruise.
First day at sea a lady passenger fell down four stairs, right in front of us. Turns out she had a heart condition and was critically ill. The ship changed course and headed towards Cape Hatteras to meet The Coast Guard, for them to air lift her to a hospital.
First a Coast Guard person was deposited on the front of the ship, with a basket.
Then the ships head nurse was hoisted aboard the helicopter, followed by the lady in the basket and lastly the coast guard person. The pilot was amazing to keep the copter so steady over the front of the ship for the duration of collecting three people.
We have all seen this type of rescue on TV or in the movies, well seeing it live and up close was a real eye opener.
Hats off to The Coast Guard for a terrific job.
It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Job well done!"

I had read that in the Fifth District news, of course having no idea that you were actually witnessing it.
