Gold-plated Golden Gate Bridge, your intentions.

Gold-plated Golden Gate Bridge, your intentions. - 03/09/03 12:22 AM

Harbour Lights started with lighthouses, added Anchor Bay Boats, introduced hot air ballons, and now has expanded to a new addition to the collectible market, bridges.

Complete this informal poll to give us a rough idea of your intentions regarding the newest HL release.

There's some very interesting information being revealled in this poll. As of this time, 14 people have already voted with surprising results.

Place your vote and check the results to see what I mean.

The registered users of the Collector Forums are but a small group of the total amount of HL collectors. Although the group is small when compared to the whole group, the results of this poll could give us a pretty good idea about how many phone calls might be made to win the right to purchase the gold-plated Golden Gate Bridge.

Time (and this poll) will tell!

I understand the interest a piece has with a short production run. I also understand the interest the scalper has in acquiring as many for future resell at as high a profit as possible. It certainly makes it difficult for the die hard collector and hobbyist to get into the mix (especially those who have to work and can't sit at a phone all day).

It's been just over three days since I started this poll and appears that the majority of the people who voted will not be attempting to purchase the gold-plated bridge. Of the 34 that voted so far, it appears 26 of them are not interested.

Could it be the price tag? Could it be the bridge itself (non-lighthouse sculpture)? Could it be people don't want to spend long periods of time trying to get through on the phone?

Lets give the poll more time and see if the resulting percentages change.

the phone part is the most difficult. Those of us who work have to call when we can and cannot stay connected for long periods of time. If this is going to be a put-on-hold-and-listen-to-music type of call, it cuts out my chance for getting a bridge

If I had to guess, I'd say it will take a while before this sells out. Not months, certainly, but quite possibly several weeks.

My reason for not buying is simple: I think the damn thing's ugly.

Why do daiquiris have such short lifespans...??

I think it will sell out rather quickly, especially if people in San Francisco find out about it! I would think the locals would buy this one up!

My question is why don't Harbour Lights try this with a lighthouse? I would think their biggest selling product would be a big seller for US to buy!

It will be interesting to see how fast the bridge will sellout!

Will pass on this one. Would have thought twice about buying if it had a lighthouse!

This poll concerning a collector's willingness to pay $250 for a gold plated Golden Gate Bridge has caught me by surprise. The surprising part is over three-quarters of the people responding to the poll have answered they aren't interested.

Does this mean that the bridge won't sell? I think it will sell, but I don't believe the telephone lines will be jammed for the morning with people fighting to get the right to purchase one.

Will I buy one? I haven't really decided yet. $250 is a lot of money to add another box to my storage room.

If the piece was a lighthouse with the bridge as a secondary focal point of the sculpture, I would be more likely to purchase it. I think I might be making an "11th hour decision" on this one.

If the bridge went on sale today, only 15 people from the CF would be dialing the phone to make the purchase. 46 CF members would definitely be passing on the opportunity.

Doesn't seem like a lot of interest from our fellow lighthouse collectors.

Just called in - answered on the third ring. They said they are almost positive they will sell out today.

If you want one, better call early.

As of 12:27pm, they are taking names on a waiting list in case someone backs out.

Quite a fast sale of 250 bridges!

I forgot all about calling today. The thought never crossed my mind. I recalled it was in May but I didn't recall it was May 1.
