Wacko Badge 2007 - 01/30/07 01:48 PM

Please vote for you choice for the 2007 Wacko Badge. Dave Hannum will again be providing the Badges for $6 after the vote and in time for anybody going to the St Augustine event.

The choices were made by committee and we attempted to give people a choice of lighthouses across the country.

Feel free to add any comments you might have- but keep the politicking to a dull roar please. laugh

Voting ends at 11:59 PM Monday 2-5-07.

Re: Wacko Badge 2007 - 01/30/07 02:36 PM

Could we get a couple lines here (preferably from the committee) as to the preservation efforts, either on-going or needed for each of the nominees?

If posted from the committee, it won't be politicking and each would get "equal time". I think this would aid forum members in making their choice.

Thanks,

Judy

I agree with Judy. It would help to know what the needs are for each nominee to make a good decision instead of just voting for the light because you like it.

I agree 100% with Debbie and Judy.

I totally agree that the membership needs to know more about each lighthouse's needs. We all have our favorites, but we should be impartial and try to vote according to need. Please educate us, Committee Members. smile Thanks!

I was wondering why the runnerups from last year we're not part of this vote?

OK,

I'll try and answer all the questions as of now.

Here are links to the various sites for each of the organizations supporting the individual lighthouses.

It will be up to the individual to go there and research the needs and wants of the individual lighthouse. We don't wish to tilt the vote one way or another. We feel it is incumbent upon each individual to do thier own research and come to an intelligent decision on thier own.

Oak Island, NC-http://www.oakislandlighthouse.org/indexalternate.htm

Harbor Of Refuge, DE-

http://www.delawarebaylights.org/index.html

Coquille, OR-

Does not have a specific website for the organization and it's aims. I've got a phone call in to the person in charge, though.

Here's an informational site about the light, though

http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/buildings/lighthouses/coquille/info/info.htm

New Canal, LA-

Grand Traverse, MI-

2. Why were last years runners up not used?

It's a new year and the Commitee decided to go with some different choices. As I stated before we tried to have a broad selection for the Forum Members to choose from. You have 5 on the list- 2 from the East Coast and one from each of the following- West Coast, Gulf Coast and the Great Lakes area. We did include one of the three lighthouses under consideration for 2006, though.

Hope this helps.

Margret,

The "right" one always wins - it's just that we can never get everyone to agree which one is the right one. laugh

Here are the results of the poll.

It looks like we'll have New Canal Lighthouse on our 2007 Wacko Badges. I'm not surprised it was the "winner".

Poll Results: Wacko Badge 2007 (63 votes.)
Wacko Badge 2007

New Canal, LA 40% (25)

Grand Traverse, MI 24% (15)

Harbor Of Refuge, DE 16% (10)

Coquille, OR 14% (9)

Oak Island, NC 6% (4)

Keep a lookout in the near future for ordering details.

Trying to find the right image to use and trying to get the people at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation to respond to me. Only people who "need" a badge in the immediate future are those going to the St. Augustine event and they will have a badge if they choose to order one when available.

Dave the St Aug evening with Bill is three weeks away. Will we be able to get some by then?

Re: Wacko Badge 2007 - 02/24/07 06:32 AM

It's not like they have to be constructed in China and shipped in. Three weeks is probably 2 weeks more than what is needed.

The order form will be available in the very near future.

Dave,

I'm going to St. Augustine, but I can still use the 2006 badge. So take your time to get the right image.
