Wayne Faust and the Wacko Song - 09/06/05 02:58 AM

Wayne Faust was the featured entertainment at the Mission Point Inn -- heck he was the ONLY entertainment. But a damn good improvisor and singer he was.

He managed to get several of the Lighthouse Wackos up on stage participating in his songs. Among the most popular was "Bald Guys".

John Roe, Ken Gebhardt, Terry Pepper and Bob Scroope join Wayne as the Chorus singing "Bald Guys!"

Patty Kaiser enjoys (?) the "freckles" song as sung to her by Wayne

Wayne was just astounded that so many lighthouse people would come together at one place at one time and promised to create a song just for us.

On Wednesday night, he sang it and it was captured on video (which we hope to have here in a few days.)

A Bunch O' Crazy Wackos

I was up on Mackinac, there at the Mission Point
Strollin' through the lobby. Checkin' out the joint.
Four hundred folks with name tags were right before my eyes.
I sputtered and I stammered out "Who ARE you guys?"

Chorus
We're a bunch o' crazy Wackos; as you can plainly see.
We buy up every lighthouse - from the company.
When we get together, we laugh and sing and shout!
We act like drunken sailors until the lights go out!

Our women dream of Cockspur Island when they go to sleep.
Our men think of Ram Island when they don't think of sheep.
We can see Round Island out there on the sound.
Last night we drank a bunch o' beer and it was spinnin' round.

Chorus

Our bald guys we are rock stars; they couldn't be fina.
Next week they sing at Bald Head in North Carolina.
And Cape Disappointment in Washington somewhere,
Is where we send those other guys - who have way too much hair.

Chorus

Ken saw Bete Griese - Oooh he loves that name.
Wacko Paul saw Gay Head -- he's never been the same.
How 'bout that girl named Pixie? Boy she's pretty hot!
We picked her up by Beaver Head so we like her a lot.

Chorus

I am just a singer, so I have never knowna.
Single lonely lighthouse in the state of Arizona.
But you folks come from every place. I guess that goes to show.
You can find some Wackos everywhere you go..

Chorus

Thanks for the good time!
Wayne

Wayne made every night in the bar with our fellow WACKOS an experience. Each night the group would seem to double as the news spread through the Reunion. A legendary time!
If and when the next Reunion happens, this guy has got to be invited/hired!
He got the audience involved, and personally got to know most of them. From 'Bald Guys' to'Freckles on Her Butt' to 'A Bunch o' Crazy Wackos' to 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida'.
He played all song requests except FREEBIRD ! lol

Right you are, Bob...

Not just "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"
But "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" on the BANJO!

LOL

We should have kidnapped Sven and taken him on the lighthouse cruises with photos in front of each.

Re: Wayne Faust and the Wacko Song - 09/07/05 02:49 AM

At the end of Monday evening's listening and singing to Wayne's hilarious songs, he asked if we would like a song written of our time together at Mission Point and our love of lighthousing. He wanted to know what the title of this song should be....the response.....the title has to have the word, "WACKO" in it. Wayne came up with, "A Bunch O Crazy Wackos". He promised that he would have the song ready for us on Wednesday night, our last night of the reunion! He delivered!

Someone would yell out a name of a song, and Wayne knew it. Remember the song, "DELIVERANCE"? The tv theme songs? (Beverly Hillbillies, Adams Family, Andy Griffith).

"My ding-a-ling"? "WIPEOUT"! "WILD THING"!

This was his last week on the island, after his 8 week gig, and returning to Colorado ski country for the winter months. He told us stories of his winter adventures at the ski lodges, now he has new material for his winter crowd, of the "lighthouse wackos on Mackinac Island"!

It was all done in good clean fun and kept us laughing! A wonderful time with great memories!

smile PRICELESS!

P.S. We had a couple of bats flying around for lively entertainment! eek

Who took the video? When we have that posted, I'll contact Wayne about the CD. He indicated if we could sell 100 @ $5, he'd do it for us, but maybe we can throw in a bit of the $5 for Katrina sufferers...

Well Folks,

I had two bats in my room. They didn't bother me and I didn't bother them. However, I began to feel a tad uneasy, so I removed the screens and they politely flew out the window.

This was Wayne's response after I sent him the link.

"Hey Bob,

That's great. Thanks for putting that up. The comments and pictures really paint a nice picture for me. And thanks for including the credits on the song. Let me know if you want me to do that CD sometime."

Sorry to you folks that missed the bar in the evenings. It was a good time had by all.

I'm sure glad I didn't have to do the "Bald Guys" song another night. I wouldn't had done it at all if you folks weren't so fun. laugh

Thanks to Rick Klobuchar, we have archived the video and audio of Wayne's original Wacko Song. The video is pretty small, we'll try to get a higher quality version up in a week or so.

To bring this back to the top, here's Wayne's Bald Guys!

Also featuring big-time WACKOs Paul Brady, Bob Scroope, Ken Gebhardt, Mike Kaiser, Queen Lorie's Prince Consort, John Roe, and Newbie Terry Pepper. And maybe one or two more.

I had most of October off and I made very good use of it. I recorded and released my new CD, "Songs From the Road," featuring mostly funny songs about lots of the places I've been to with my show. It's got island music, a song about The Bucksnort Saloon, a song about flatlanders coming to Colorado to ski, a song about driving in the UK called "The Wrong Side Of the Road" and a song celebrating the CHICAGO WHITE SOX WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP! I grew up watching the Sox, and I still can't believe they finally won it all after 88 years.
You can get a special, signed copy of the new CD for only $10 until the end of the year, so order now.

I have just one more road trip to make, and that's to Chicago for the annual Rob Roy Concert.
Tickets a nearly gone, so if you haven't gotten yours yet, do it right away.
After that, another ski season will kick in. I look forward to mountains full of people who all love to yell, "We're On Vacation!"

God bless, and I hope to see you soon.

Dave,
Received the Bus Trip photo CD. I want to thank you for the work you did in setting up the bus trip. It was truly a lighthousing adventure. Ron and MJ Foster were great tour guides and with the help of Ron and Shirley Drummer. Thanks also to Ron Foster and Eric Sharp for sharing there great photos. Again thanks Dave for a great Reunion.

The ski season is upon me again. I start in Breckenridge on December 20th, for another great winter of apres-ski shows.
The early snow has been the best on record - with Breckenridge getting something like ten feet of snow so far. I've skied several times already this year, and believe me, it's awsome.
Thanks to all those who made the Rob Roy Concert another great night for me again this year.

Have a wonderful Christmas, or whatever Holiday you celebrate, and I hope to see you soon.
