KEWAUNEE, WISCONSIN LIGHTHOUSE



Continuing with my effort to get photo galleries built on my website for all of the Wisconsin lights, a little earlier this evening, I added the Kewaunee photo gallery. One of the photos from the gallery is above. Here's the URL link to the new gallery:

The Kewaunee light straddles a pier the juts out into Lake Michigan about a quarter of a mile or so and pretty much consumes the width of the pier. The shot above is one that I took in the late twilight in June, 2001. This was shot with a 300 mm f4 lens stopped all the way down to f32 to give me the wonderful starburts from the light in the lantern room. Who needs a starburst filter when you're shooting a lighthouse? Not hardly!

That is a nice shot, Gary. I thought that opening the aperture all the way gave the starburst. Guess I had my signals crossed.

You want to stop your lens all the way down, Mike, the further the better. The number of rays in the starburst is also a function of the number of blades in the iris of your lens. My Nikkor 300 mm f4 happens to have more blades in the iris than any of my other lenses, hence I get more rays in the starburst from this lens than any of the others.
