Hog Island Lighthouse, Nassau,Bahamas

Hog Island Lighthouse, Nassau,Bahamas - 01/13/04 05:01 AM

I am a little slow posting these photos from my trip over Thanksgiving. Larry's posting of wanting Nassau Harbor lighthouse in the wish list made me think to post these pictures.

This lighthouse is called Hog Island, Paradise Island, or Nassau Harbor lighthouse.

As we were leaving port in the afternoon, this is looking back at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.

When cruise ships enter the port of Nassau they cruise by the lighthouse. It is deceiving how tall this lighthouse is because I was taking the pictures from my balcony on deck 8 and was looking down at the lighthouse. This wasn't our ship but the same RCCL company ship.

Very, very cool photos, Lorie. Thanks for sharing them as always. Any way you can pack me in one of your steamer trunks on some of your upcoming journies?

Wow, looking out my window at the snow makes these pictures all the better.

Nice job.

Very nice Lorie.

My own pictures aren't as nice, because we took our cruise the year before I got hooked. My pictures are more of the "look at the nice lighthouse" variety.

Thanks

Lorie, the photos are great. I'm envious and if that trunk is big enough for two let me know.

What beautiful shots of the lighthouse and the scenery!! It does look like a very small light. And I too am envious of how nice it looks there as it was -11 when I got up this morning. I could use some warmth and sun!! laugh

Very nice pictures Lorie...one day, I'll go to the Bahamas...I wonder if the QM2 is going there. I really want to sail on a Cunard liner, as I am an ocean liner freak, and Cunard is the only line that has "ocean liners" per se.

Speaking of ocean liners, here is a bit of trivia - a trivial bit of trivia but did you know that the QE2 goes 6" for every gallon of fuel? And I thought that my car was a gas guzzler! (I read this somewhere)

That's funny...I just learned that fact yesterday somewhere else...there was a page filled with 50+ facts.

Another one: Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2 should always, when abbreviated, use the Arabic "2" instead of the Roman "II". The number is in reference to the ships being the second Queen Elizabeths and Queen Marys, not the respective English monarchs. When in reference to real people, use II.

Greg,

Being a Cunard ocean liner buff, you probably already know, but both the QE2 and QM2 will be in New York in April.

Also, I can't see either of these two ships cruising into Nassau Harbor. I think that they would be too big.

Yep, I know about the QE2/QM2 NYC thing. I might go, but the same areas where we visited back on QE2's Christmas in the Carribean 15 day cruise will all be filled with press or blocked off. We were within feet of the ship, waving to the departing passengers and calling "Bon Voyage" to them. I'll have to get some photos uploaded...I got some cool ones, though none of her in the harbor as it was too dark. She was just a moving block of lights. Beautiful.

Also, I see what you mean about Nassau. Though I have never been, the QM2 is large. They seem to go to a different part of the Carribean, too, I think. I don't see anything that seems to be on the Bahamas side on any itineraries.

I am actually looking at a QM2 Mothers Day 3-day cruise NYC/NYC. It will cruise the NY waterways, meaning that my two largest interests will be combined: The inevitable NY lights and the QM2. I could go on forever about this, but I don't want to bore you all to death. laugh
