New Photo Site - 05/21/06 03:29 PM

Just to inform everyone...

I'm going to be moving all my online photo galleries to Flickr over the coming days or so. I liked the Yahoo! Photos' freeness, but it doesn't have the community features or ease of use I REALLY want. So I decided to pay the $25/year and become a Pro member of Flickr, with all the benefits.

My photostream is here:

So far, I've got the photos from Valley Forge that you've seen (had half of them there when I ran out of March bandwidth, so I finished the job), photos from my class trip to The Closters in NYC last month, and photos from the QE2's final Manhattan departure. I'm working backwards through my photo library otherwise, probably to the summer of 2004.

I can't add any more photos until I get my account upgraded, but when I do, I'll start finishing up the OBX photos. It takes 1/2 the time to do it with Flickr as opposed to Yahoo!, so I'm much more inclined. wink

Wow, some beautiful OBX photos. You make me want to be there!

Thanks and it looks like a nice site as well!

Nice pictures Greg. So are you a sailing man? Or just go along for the ride?

I checked your pictures out when you moved to flickr, Greg. You've done a great job. It's always enjoyable to look over your pictures. I especially liked your "Cloisters" pictures since I've been there and those from the OBX since I will be there in June. Thank for sharing!

Terrific photos, Greg. I like how you look for "different" angles when you shoot. I do the same, and I really like some of the stuff you've done.

And the "ruins" in LI sound...those would be the ruins of Fort Tyler, near where the Gardiner's Island Lighthouse once stood. Do you know why it was named Fort Tyler? laugh

Thanks for the comments so far!

I sail a little, though I'm still learning. I get to winch and stuff. smile

I'd have to say that I don't know why it's called Fort Tyler. After the president?

BTW, uploaded more shots just now of The Gates last February. Next up will probably be my two aviation galleries, from the Intrepid and Udvar-Hazy centre in DC. Keep tuned.

Greg, yes, Fort Tyler was named after President Tyler (Tippicanoe and Tyler too!). He was the only president who was married while he was in office, and he married Julia Gardiner.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photos.

Diane,

I should have known that tidbit. I remember hearing it while on a Lighthouse Cruise- but I'm not sure if it was while on the Sumbeam Fleet Cruise out of CT or the LI Challenge cruise last year- or both.
