Some Jersey Lighthouse Pictures - 01/25/07 09:52 PM

Here's some photo's from last October's NJ Lighthouse Challenge. We didn't complete it, but got a good feel for what it would take to complete. We hope to complete it in 2007.

The first 5 are from the Tuckers Seaport, which is a replica of the Tuckers Beach/Island lighthouse which was lost to the sea in 1927. The island no longer exists as well.

What Loon doesn't belong in this shot. (Notice the Wacko badge)

A painting of the original lighthouse.

A shot from the seaport side.

Side shot by Route 9. Heavy amounts of traffic on Route 9 that day, so I didn't attempt to cross the highway and get a front shot. Didn't want to become somebodys hood ornament. wink

More to come !!!

Nice pics!

We went on the 2006 NJ Challenge and you definately need to plan to be at one end or the other as soon as it starts to get a good start to the challenge. We started at Sandy Hook and worked our way down the coastline.....ended up in Cape May for the night climb. We stayed overnight near Sea Isle City where we have a cottage and started the next morning at East Point and worked our way west for the remaining few lighthouses. It worked out so well (time wise) that we had time to stop and photograph several Life Saving Station buildings along the way on Saturday.
I never felt like we were rushing either. We had time to climb a few, talk to some folks, eat...and the weather really was perfect for it also.
Completed it early on Sunday afternoon.
Good Luck this year....it really isn't that hard to do..you just need to plan the time right.

Here's a few pics from the second lighthouse we visited, Absecon. I was surprised how close it was to the Atlantic City casios.

This one shows the casios behind Absecon.

A view of the casios from the top.

More pics to come !!!

By the way, this post makes me a Super Wacko. vhappy

Bob, We also met Donna and got a signed print. Ours was of the eleven lighthouses that make up the NJ Lighthouse Challenge.

We thought Absecon was great. Since it's one of the tallest in the US, it's one I recommend to everyone to see & climb.

Another lighthouse we visited that day was Hereford Inlet. Harry Hine was their signing HL's and talking to all who came by.
