Inside Plum Beach - 02/28/05 03:05 PM

Some of you had requested to see the inside of the Plum Beach Lighthouse, so here are some pix. Most of these were taken in the summer of 03 during the exterior renovations, before the windows and doors were capped. There has been no further work done on any of the walls or floors, and other than there being less light inside now, here is what it still looks like.

The floorboards are rotted out from the guano damage.

The cabinets are still somewhat intact on the lantern level.

The basemant level wall discoloration is not paint--it is from the depth of the guano, in some places it was over 4 feet deep.

Shot through the missing panels of the lantern room.

Dave, ...Your photos are very enlightening regarding the interior of Plum Beach Light. I've been cruising past that light, headed for Block Island, for many years. It is heart warming to know and see the work that has already been accomplished. Kudos to all who believed in this treasure and have worked so hard to bring it back for all to enjoy.
