What do you think about this idea?

We have seen many favorable innovations from Harbour Lights through their later years of being the manufacturer of the finest collectible in the world. What do you think of this idea?

Many abandoned lights have been converted to private residences. Many times, when this happens, the lantern room is removed. Two lights immediately came to mind in my immediate area: Stage Harbor Light in Chatham on Cape Cod, and Conanicut Island Light on the opposite end of Conanicut Island from the Beavertail Light.

Do you think it would be nice to have Harbour Lights replicate a lighthouse with a removable lantern room so the replica could depict the light the way it was and the way it is today?

Both lights I mentioned would be an excellent choice, especially Conanicut Light which is painted red. I like red and I think many of you do to!

Not a bad idea. HL has removable roofs and a side that opens up, not to mention before and afters so why not a removable lens room. Just another idea that's a 1st.

Hard to imagine someone buying an abandoned lighthouse to turn into a residence, and REMOVING the lantern room, isn't it! I know it happens, but, still hard to imagine.

Gone, the romance of it! To say the least!

Great idea, Bob. BY the way do you have any pictures of Conanicut. I've been there, but couldn't get any pictures.

Well Bob, I'm sorry but I really don't think much of your idea. I prefer my lights to mostly just sit still and look pretty. Also to just look the way they did when they were operative.

Most of the headless lights were probably decapitated by the CG when they were taken out of service, not by the private owners.

Hi Mombo,...Think of such a piece as a self contained "Then & Now" release. If you were showing it to a friend you could explain what it looked like then and what it looks like now just by lifting off the lantern room. It would be a great visual aid!

Bob, I have to agree with Mombo... I don't think there is anything sadder (lighthouse-wise) to look at than a lighthouse without a lanternroom..

Well maybe the empty spot where a lighthouse used to be before the CG blew it up, is sadder!

How about a lantern room with a fresnel lens in it? Since HL is doing the miniture fresnel ornaments, maybe they can get even smaller with a lantern room that opens to reveal a lens?

I was never so disappointed and saddened when seeing Stage Harbor and another light on Cape Cod with the lantern rooms removed.

I like the idea Bob .... an alternative from Meeeechegan would be McGulpin Point, located not too far west of the Straits of Mackinac. smile smile

I prefer to see the lighthouses as they were when they were functional and doing the job they were intended to do.

I must say that some private owners have gone through great expense to replace the lantern room. Case in point would be Morgan Point in Noank, CT.

Here's another twist. What about lights like Egmont Key? Should it be done with aerobeacon or lantern room with lens?

I'm going to have to agree with those above who would prefer to have their lights as they were when they were functional. I couldn't begin to fathom a Princes Bay piece that would include the lantern room replaced by a statue of the Virgin Mary. eek
