Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/23/09 09:08 PM

I'm confused.... this post has been dead with no responses all day.

Tony, if you don't know which lighthouses were picked, then how are we collectors suppose to know what they are?

...or are you asking for recommendation for lights to be made by HLs in 2010?

Am I missing something. Perhaps I am suppose to be in sunny San Diego to see what 2010 surprises pop up!

I'd like to see another light from Hawaii and another "older CG Cutter".

My request is in.

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/24/09 04:15 PM

I take this as Tony asking us to guess what remakes of L.E. that are going to come out for production.

What ever you do make sure it has a lightning rod on it.

I also sent my guess as Tony requested

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/24/09 08:12 PM

Requests for "ideas" or guesses of what the 2010 lights will be?

I am still confused as to what exactly Tony is asking of us....

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/24/09 08:32 PM

I think what Tony is saying is to list a good candidate for a Limited Edition lighthouse to be remade and see if Harry had the same one in mind. In other words which one would the collectors want remade?

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/24/09 08:56 PM

He's looking for input from us like he asked of us last year for this years line.

i think he is looking for new different replicas to be made..

not remade, Daniel..

I don't think you want new versions that HL's has already made, do you Daniel?

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/24/09 09:11 PM

Daniel has seemed to be in a funk lately. Some of his latest posts have had a very negative vibe to them. Just today he threatened to stop collecting HL's if they don't hold the reunion in the south.

Good point Paul.
I guess I can be added to the list of those that don't know what Tony is asking for.

Eric
Please don't make me look so petty. I am quite capable of doing that on my own. laugh

I didn’t mean I would quit collecting if Harbour lights didn't hold a Southern reunion.
What I meant was it just isn’t that important to me anymore and I can always collect something else.

I would like to see a Limited Edition replica of Point Lookout. There is a Little Light version, but I would like a larger, limited, edition.

Point Lookout & Blackstone Lights are the 2 Maryland lights I'd most like to see made by Harbour Lights.

Ohhhh, you hit on a good one there, "Blackistone Light"! I strongly support this idea, especially since the replica was just finished last Summer. It is sooo sweet!

I talked to Tony today and he indicated he had very few requests come in. If everyone would take some time to let him know your needs, you might just be surprised at what you might get.

Get your wishes emailed to him soon, else don't complain why it's taken so many years for something you wished for to be released!

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/29/09 03:48 PM

I have asked for Point Lookout, MD on my registration cards for the last several years. It has an interesting history (Ghost), and would make an attractive Limited Edition piece.

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/29/09 08:38 PM

Remakes of LE's? The original 13 should be remade since they look awful displayed next to the more sophisticated sculpting techniques over the years. Maybe they could have a theme such as " Boston Light on the 4th of July" etc. (Same gimmick used to remake Cape Hatteras, Block Island, St. Augustine etc...)

New LE releases
Five Mile Point, New Haven, CT
Watch Hill, R.I.

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 04/29/09 10:27 PM

Hopefully, Watch Hill(Westerly RI)will be issued as well as Ponham Rocks (East Providence RI). I can't belive Great Point (Nantucket MA) has never been done.

ginnyanne - I just talked to Tony yesterday(tuesday) and he is a very busy man. He's got a lot on his plate and that is why he asked for emails in case he didn't get a chance to read what is posted. He's also available by phone if you prefer to talk to him rather then email.

I sent the following suggestions to Tony via email earlier this week and he replied back to the effect that "one of your suggestions for 2010 is a reality in 2009."

1) Mile Rocks, CA
2) Old Cape Fear, NC
3) Makapu'u Point, HI
4) Old Point Adams, OR
5) Cape Mendocino, CA

My guess is it will be Makapu'u...

Seems Watch Hill is on a few collectors list.

Miles Rocks & Old Cape Fear are moving onto my wishlist.

Ginnyanne - You must have a minimum of 50 posts before you become a Wacko and can post an avatar. Right now you only have 43 posts. When the 50th post happens just go to your profile and select either one of the standard avatars or you can use a personal one. I, quite honestly, don't know how to post a personal avatar, but, I sure that Paul, Dave, Loon or anyone else will be glad to modify the picture so it can be used for your avatar.

1 Elbow of Cross Ledge, NJ

I emailed my choice of Point Lookout to Tony. My parents loved to camp at the state park there. It's history as a Civil War POW camp and the lingering ghost soldiers is interesting.

One other thing I neglected to pass along during my recent email exchange with Tony is that we collectors may experience a bit of sticker shock when we see the Summer releases...the high cost of materials and labor in China is driving up the prices of our beloved little sculptures...

Both the Elbow of Cross Ledge and the Cross Ledge lighthouses, as they were, would be great replicas.

Sorry to hear that. It was hard enough when the prices went to $99 and higher so I guess some of us will have to get even more selective in our purchases. The quality has really improved over the years and with the cost of materials going up like everything else, it is not surprising though.

Well if everybody else is raising there prices in an effort to survive (even though this actually makes it worse), why shouldn't Harbour Lights.

I'd rather pay a little more then to start seeing shrinking replicas that aren't much bigger then LLOM's.

Maybe HL should allow retailers to temporarily run incentive sales during the next year to help keep sales at a decent level. The rise in retail price is going to hurt the stores the most.

That would make several of us CF members very happy.

Actually there are many LLOM's that don't have a LE version. Hoping to see Five Fingers, Poe Reef, Tinicum Range, Finn Point, Bailey's Harbor, Orient Point, Matagorda, Isle Au Haut, Grays Reef, Delaware Breakwater, Craighill Upper Front & Lower Front, Sand Hill, etc. I could name several more.

Since some of the development work is already done, might help on the cost of production.

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 12/29/09 08:09 PM

I would love to have a replica of the Mathias Point Shoal Light. The lighthouse was off the shore at northern most point of King George, VA. Mathias Point was the site of the first union naval officer fatality of the Civil War.
James H. Ward, the commanding officer of the USS Thomas Freeborn, a 269-ton side-wheel steam gunboat, was shot and mortally wounded. He was the first union naval fatality of the Civil War.

Happy New Year!

The 2010 Line up:

(11) Limited Editions
(1) GLOW
(1) Lens
(1) Anchor Bay
(1) Christmas Replica
(2) 2010-11 Collectors' society Replicas

That is what the entire 2010 line up looks like at this writing! Is there a possibility of more pieces beig intoduced during the year - perhaps! Let's see what the economy looks like! All the 2010 Replicas have been commissioned and, we are waiting for onlty one more first sample to leave China!

To date, (2) exclusive limited edition LLOM have been commissioned, in fact one has been delivered to the Customer! I am working with several other societies - my sales goal is six more for 2010.

Happy New Year!
Posted By: flacoastie

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 12/31/09 12:00 AM

I'm extremely happy about the 16 limited editions(GLOW doesn't count for me). It helps me extend my collecting another year space wise and it sure won't hurt the check book as much, even if the costs MIGHT be going up a little on each piece with the lesser amounts and smaller edition sizes.
Posted By: Lighthouse Loon

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 12/31/09 04:42 PM

A little disappointing to see only 17 releases. I'm including the GLOW, because I collect these too.

- I hope the GLOW is something special.
- I think there should only be a lens every few years, certainly not the same year as an Anchor Bay.
- No mention of a Store or Regional Event piece, Hopefully they will be added to the numbers.
- Maybe this is the year will see our first fundraiser LE(edition size similiar to the limited LLOM's but the piece is Jordan Point or Duxbury Pier size).
- Interesting statement Tony made about possibly more releases depending on the economy.
Posted By: flacoastie

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 12/31/09 05:11 PM

Loon - If you have the extra money to buy more pieces, as I'm sure that others feel the same as you do, maybe this is the time to concentrate on buying some of the older pieces that you do not have. For those of us that have been buying from the very beginning, this is a long time coming relief with only 16 pieces. I realize that you may not be interested, as many others are, in the older pieces but to continue putting out 23-25 pieces a year is what is causing the glut in the stores aand at Lighthouse Depot. While you collect them all, the autoship collectors and collectors like you make up only a very small percentage (probably less then 10%) and that doesn't sell out the editions of 1200. Based on an edition size of 1200 pieces and 10% autoship, that leaves close to 1100 pieces for everyone else to buy. Other collectors, out of 23-25 pieces a year, they will probably only buy 3-4 pieces so the glut just gets bigger. What I'm trying to point out is to relieve the market glut, you must cut back on production and going to 16 this year will most certainly help.
Posted By: WackoPaul

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 12/31/09 08:29 PM

I think the GLOW is very special, so is the lens..

I don't know any inside information, I just shoot the pictures but I suspect the economy statement may refer to the possibility of Store or Regional Event pieces.

The Anchor Bay has a special twist to it!

Harry and Harbour Lights have put together a very interesting line up this year..

Re: 2010 Replicas - HELP - 01/01/10 12:46 AM

Whatever the number of releases, I'm anxious to see them.

Hopefully one or two more will be added. Might be a nice surprise during the year. We usually know all the release details early in the year and are bored for new info by summer.

I'm actually cutting back on my secondary market purchases. I've been averaging about 40 secondary market purchases the last 4 years. My collection has grown very quickly. I'm going to try to only buy about 10 older pieces in 2010. All depends on whats out there to buy.
