Michigan Lighthouses - 08/16/08 03:22 AM

Here are some interesting lighthouses in Michigan which Harbour Lights has not yet made:

Saugatuck (Kalamazoo River) Light (a lost lighthouse on Lake Michigan)

Beaver Island (S. Beaver Head, Lake Michigan)

Ontonagon (Lake Superior, Upper Peninsula)

Hopefully, they could be made in the small size (This Little Light of Mine) since they would be much more affordable and take up less space.

Harbour Lights listens to their collectors. I truly believe if there is enough support expressed for a certain light, they will make it in one form or another. Drumming up support is the tough part. Posting pictures would certainly help along with a narrative of why this light (or these lights) should be considered.

Those three sound like they would make great Harbour Lights replicas, but I prefer regular sized limited edition pieces.

It's always interesting to see what HL releases each year. They do listen to us on the CF.

My preference is that HL spreads the releases to cover as many area's as possible. Example: one from MA or RI, one from CT or NY, One from NJ or DE, one from MD or VA, one from Lake Michigan, one from Lake Erie, one from WA or OR, etc...

Great to hear your wishlist, I'm going to reshearch these lighthouses.

I found these links to some webpages which provide the history of the lighthouses along with a few photographs. Perhaps they are more well known to residents of Michigan, but they are very interesting to read about. One of the lights no longer exists-- the Saugatuck lighthouse was destroyed by a tornado in 1956. I hope this helps people here who are interested in the history of the lights and the Great Lakes.

There is also a description of each of the three lighthouses in the book Great Lakes Lighthouses Encyclopedia by Larry and Patricia Wright, which is available in many libraries.

You're very welcome. The state of Michigan has the most lighthouses, and each one has something special about it.
