There was an old 'wickie' named Ned.
Who often baked a great loaf of bread,
Added 3 bags of nuts,
A pound of butter into the mixture he cuts.
Baked it and then went to bed.

Don't mean to be picky, but I thought a Limeric
was five lines where line 1, 2, and 5 rhyme.
And 3 & 4 were a rhymed couple.
Some of the above Limerics do not comply with this.

I thought the rules got modified a bit.

Only one line per Limerick per day. Once a new Limerick starts, your open to post again.

That happened with the new rule that whoever finishes a Limerick, gets to start a new one.

I don't mean to be picky either. After all, this is just a game, but...
I don't see one that doesn't comply with those rules with the exception of the very first one on page 1 of the thread.

Now, they don't all make good sense, but that is also the nature of a limerick.

Maybe you mean that some of the posted lines don't adhere to a strict meter?

Loon, I'm still in, but I like the ones that adhere to the rhythm, and especially like the ones that have a subject somewhat related to lighthouses.

When the rhythm is way off from one line to the next, it is kind of like a chalk screeching across a blackboard for me.

Then, there are also times when the last word makes it impossible to create a rhyme without inventing a word.

It would be nice if we could also get back to following the simple rules posted by the thread originator on page one.

All right...I do need ONE more cup of coffee this morning. smile

Judy, I totally agree with you. I wanted to, but haven't, fixed a prior line thats out wack. We should add to the rules that a prior line can be fixed without ticking anybody off.

I also think the topic should stay lighthouse related, or at least nautical.

The stairway to heaven must be in a lighthouse,
We'll make the climb someday and leave behind our spouse,
But don't dwell on the sad times but live for today,
Just know we will all be together someday,
You know when you go, you'll be as quiet as a mouse!

His neighbors told him the color was all wrong,
They took up petitions and stood seven strong.

His neighbors told him the color was all wrong,
They took up petitions and stood seven strong.
And vowed to stand tall until it was time for bed!

I'm aborting this one early, to start a new thread. This one's 12 pages - probably a CF record - that is a bit ungainly to navigate.
