Having trouble finding lighthouses in countries that you just know have them and can't find them? Get out your atlas and try searching by city instead of country and you just might come up with some!

Re: International Lighthouse Name Game, Part XIII - 07/29/01 03:37 PM

Nope don't use a list, I do a page search using the name (and the links to the earlier pages) and it has worked well except for when the name is misspelled. That time I left out an o and I should have searched for it in German...

I will type I will search in several spellings.... 100 times
I will search in several spellings....
I will search in several spellings....
I will search in several spellings....
I love cut and paste...
I will search in several spellings....

Re: International Lighthouse Name Game, Part XIII - 07/29/01 07:13 PM

Actually I'm on list # 2 as list # 1 got filled up too fast. I like the list, by letter of the alphabet, one reason being that is shows just how many we've come up with, very impressive! Also it makes it easy to tally them up for the updates (which are not guaranteed to be 100% accurate but should be close). If a place has its own flag, it's a "country". I've also included multiple lights, when specified, as separate lights when arriving at the totals. So it's a count of lights rather than stations. Some locations have multiple lights but if only one has been referenced those additional lights are still "up for grabs".

NOW, because the MEN messed up the game and the WOMEN are cursing them out I vote we go back to Derith's "Tory Island" keeping Bryan's Medway Head in reserve. It's a Y or a D either way (groan). S'ok? Medway should be deleted or it will nuts up Paul's search method, lol.

Re: International Lighthouse Name Game, Part XIII - 07/30/01 01:30 AM

I gave up trying to search for the lights within the forums a little while ago. I finally gave in because it just go too complicated and became too much work to search.

I now have an excel database which I can either sort alphabetically or sort by country and it has really cut down on the time I have to search. I haven't come up with a duplicate light since I began using it, so it seems to be working.

I would be willing to email it to anyone who wants it. Just let me know.
