Timeline2 Part I

Let's see if we can bring back a fun one from a while ago. I tried this in the summer, but the low visitation in those months led to not many players. I'm restarting it again for the Fall.

The rules are unchanged:

"The name of the game is "Timeline". Here's how it works:

We're working with the years of important events in individual lighthouses' histories. One person will list a year, a lighthouse, and an event that took place in that year at that light. The next person has to find another light with a DIFFERENT event that happened the next year.

Once we run out of events going forward in time, we'll go back to my original event and go backwards. And so on and so forth, bouncing between 1716 and 2004/5.

The twists and rules:

-Why is "different" in caps? When you post an event, it cannot be the same thing as happened in the previous event. Example: My event is a lighthouse getting a new lens. The next person cannot make their event have to do with getting a lens in a light. This might get a bit confusing...go with your gut feeling.

-Your event MUST be in the next year in the direction of play. If the previous post was 1876, you must post an 1875 (for backwards in time) or 1877 (for forwards in time).

-All lights must be in the US.

-You must provide a link to a webpage with the fact you are presenting on it.

-One post per person per day."

I know you said all lights must be in the US. So I waited if someone came up with something... so far nothing...
So how about an exception? I have a 1903 for a UL light

The North tower of the Lizard Twin Towers was de-activated in 1903 and the proof is on a US page

Does that count? Hope so

I guess that, since you're British, you can use British lighthouses. As long as you try to find a US one first.

I'll add 1904 to the line...Crisp Point, MI light becomes active.

1908 - Ladies Delight Lighthouse was built on Lake Cobbosseecontee in Manchester, Maine. This light is located on a freshwater Lake.

In 1914 with the completion of the Cape Cod Canal and with fewer ships taking the longer route around the Cape, the Bass River Lighthouse was deactivated and the property sold at auction.

WOOD END LIGHTHOUSE, MA The originally installed optic was a 4th-order Fresnel lens. In 1916 the Lighthouse Board installed an incandescent oil vapor lamp in a 5th-order revolving Fresnel lens with 8 panels. Previously, the vapor lamp was used only in the larger 4th-order lens where heat, rising perpendicularly from the top and spreading out into a 10- to 15-degree cone, could be more readily dissipated through the top of the lens. The smaller 5th-order lens' installation was made possible by placing a metal heat deflector atop the lens to protect it from cracking. The lens was removed in 1960 when an automated modern rotating optic was installed.

LONG ISLAND HEAD (INNER HARBOR) LIGHTHOUSE, MA. Located in Boston Harbor on the tip of Long Island northeast of Quincy, the 23' rubblestone and granite lighthouse tower was built on the hill on Long Island Head and first lit in October of 1819. The light, automated in 1918, is now produced by a modern optic.

I'm posting an occurance that took place in 1919 as neither of the last two shown are for that year.

MORGAN POINT LIGHTHOUSE, CT. The lighthouse’s first private owners (1922) recorded that Morgan Point was deactivated in 1919 and its responsibility transferred to a minor beacon at the entrance to the Mystic River.

CAPE ELIZABETH, WEST TOWER, ME. Slated for decommissioning in 1882 and saved by protesting mariners and an influential Maine congressman, the West Tower was finally discontinued, its lantern and optic removed, and abandoned in 1924, when all coastal twin lighthouses were reduced to a single beacon.

June 29th 1925 the Santa Barbara Lighthouse in California was severely damaged by an earthquake.

The smaller lighthouse was discontinued on June 30, 1926. A crew from the lighthouse tender "Azalea" began dismantling the tower two days later.

HOSPITAL POINT RANGE REAR LIGHT. A new light was established in the spire of the First Baptist Church (1801) on May 1, 1927. The church is almost a perfect nautical mile (2,050 yards) west northwest of the Hospital Point Range Front Light.

In 1927, a Rear Range Light was installed in the spire of the First Baptist Church located 2,050 yards, 276.3 deg from the Front Range Light. The Rear Range Light was first lit on May 1, 1927 exhibiting a fixed white light illuminated by optics scrapped from a Lightship. Hospital Point Light was officially renamed the Hospital Point Range Front Light. By aligning the Front Range Light to the Rear Range Light, ships would be on course safely in mid-channel. The Range Lights provided additional guidance to the condensing panel aid.

NEW LONDON HARBOR (NEW LONDON; PEQUOT) LIGHTHOUSE, CT The lighthouse is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard; the dwelling and grounds have been privately owned since 1928.

At last a road was cleared to the lighthouse and the next year the tramway used to carry supplies up the steep cliff to the lighthouse was dismantled.

1934 The name of "Negro Island Light" in Maine was changed to "CURTIS ISLAND LIGHT".

1935 - Singing Towers - Clinton, Iowa, United States

Location: Riverview Drive levee, Mississippi River

Three small lighthouses were constructed by the WPA (Works Progress Administration) in 1935. They're known as the Singing Towers because music was played from the tops of the towers for the enjoyment of people visiting the park along the Mississippi.

Description of Tower: Three white octagonal masonry towers, blue horizontal bands and blue lanterns.

In 1940, Bird Island was sold and became private property until 1966 when the town of Marion acquired the island. The Bird Island Lighthouse Preservation Society was founded by Charles Bradley in January of 1994 to restore and maintain the Lighthouse as a welcoming signal to ships from around the world.

EAST POINT LIGHTHOUSE, NJ. The U.S. Coast Guard operated the East Point Light from 1939 until 1941 when the light was extinguished due to the beginning of World War II.

NEWBURYPORT HARBOR (PLUM ISLAND) LIGHTHOUSE, MA. The beacon was automated in 1951. The Coast Guard retains custody of the lighthouse and the surrounding 0.3 acre of land; the keeper’s residence, oil house, garage, and 2.2+ acres were transferred by the Coast Guard in 1951 to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

1952 Bishop and Clerks Light in Massachusetts was tilting and in bad condition, and in 1952 the Coast Guard decided to destroy the structure. Hundreds watched as the tower was dynamited on September 11, 1952.
