Lighthouses in Movies/TV - 07/21/05 04:35 AM

Have you seen a lighthouse recently in a movie or tv programme? Let's create a list.

I'm sitting here watching the Thomas Crown Affair (the 1999 version). In the scene where they're boating in NY Harbor, there was a close-up of Robbin's Reef Light. I've rewound it about five times now.

One post person/day.

EDIT: 21 July, add person/day rule.

I was watching the History Channel early Sunday morning, and they had on a show about "The Perfect Storm" -- the storm itself, not the movie. During the course of the show, they flashed up images of the Orient Point and Lynde Point lighthouses.

Los Angeles Harbor Lighthouse in The Aviator
when Howard Huges takes the Spruce Goose out in Los Angeles Harbor you can see the lighthouse not once but twice (it looks like it could be real film footage, but not sure)

Greg ...

Sounds like a bit of senility ... of old age ... creeping up on you ... smile

About the movie "The Rock" ... when out there last spring, how disappointed was my wife to learn the spot where Nicholas Cage dove off the island (maybe blown off?) doesn't really exist ... merely a Hollywood creation for your viewing pleasure ...

I almost forgot! ALEXANDER has a copy of the Alexandria Lighthouse at the beginning of the movie. laugh Then minutes later ANGELINA JOLIE. laugh Too bad the movie as a whole was disappointing, but the first battle scene was good.

I haven't finished watching it yet- i've got it Tivoed- and i'm not sure yet which Lighthouse it is but there's a Lighthouse in the very beginning of the movie On the Beach.

It's supposed to be set in Melbourne, Australia so i'll start there to see if they played loose and fast with it's identity.

It's been awhile, but the old Murder She Wrote used both Pt Cabrillo and Pt Fermin.

Re: Lighthouses in Movies/TV - 08/23/05 03:38 PM

Taking the topic in another direction ... while playing around GOOGLE last week I sought movies that had LIGHTHOUSES as the theme, not just a passing shot ... here are the three I found quickly ... I am sure there must be many others ...

The first is a period romantic epic ... the second a soap-operaish tale ... the third a horror story ...

Well,

Can't tell you if any lighthouse is pictured in the episode but the second installment of the George Reeve's "Superman" series with the air date ...

Re: Lighthouses in Movies/TV - 10/11/05 09:44 PM

I was channel surfing last night, and I noticed Point Loma (the old one) on ABC during the football game. I guess San Diego was playing...I don't really follow football outside of the Giants, who I don't even follow that much.

Thought it was kind of cool...even though it's just B-roll...

Re: Lighthouses in Movies/TV - 10/12/05 12:55 AM

Another one...was just watching NBC Nightly News, and they had a story about all the ice that FEMA is trucking all over the country for Katrina/Rita, coming nowhere near the Gulf Coast. The story began talking about a truckload of ice in Portland, ME, and had a shot of Portland Head for a long time.

Also...minor rule edit...I know it says only one post person/day. However, in the case of recent sightings in recent media, then you may make more than one post per day.

I saw a Blake Shelton video on CMT the other day and it had at least two lighthouses in it. Can't remember the name of the video and didn't know the names of the lighthouses. I'll have to see if I can find it on the CMT website.

The Tybee Island Lighthouse is in 'The General's Daughter.'

Old Baldy is in 'The Butcher's Wife'

The Cape Henry Lighthouses are in 'Hearts in Atlantis'

Also, Jaws and Jaws 2 had a lighthouse...Martha's Vineyard?

An old television movie that's fairly hard to find now, "My Sweet Charlie," is set at the Bolivar Lighthouse near Galveston. The light plays a big part in the film. It's a good movie, too.

Portsmouth Harbor NH will be visited on Ghosthunters this next Wednesday. This lighthouse is rarely open. GH does a lot of lighthouses.

Re: Lighthouses in Movies/TV - 12/28/08 03:55 AM

I was trying to find something on TV last week when I started watching this movie about a USCG Admiral getting married and now having 18 children. Turns out it was the 2005 remake of the 1968 Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball movie "Yours Mine and Ours". This one had Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo in the lead roles.

The remake had the Admirals family living in a New London Harbor lighthouse.

The movie "Need for speed" (2014) ends the movie at the point arena lighthouse, and it would lead you to believe that Michael Keaton's character is working from the lantern room of a lighthouse, but the windows would be wrong for Point arena's lantern room
