Thunder Bay Island - matching grant - 01/13/04 04:52 AM

Thunder Bay Island Lighthouse in Michigan can get a grant that will match 3 dollars for every dollar raised up to 27,500 however, it must raise the 27,500 first. The original grant ran out in June of 2003 but they were given an extension to July 18, 2004. So with 6 months to go they still need about $8,300. Before you know it 6 months will pass. Also it has been pointed out if restoration takes too long, more damage will be done and much more money will be needed.

We can go to the website for more info at:
http://geocities.com/thunderbayislandlight/

or you can just write a check now and mail it to:

TBILPS
Attention: Karen Melton
P.O. Box 212
Alpena, MI 49707

We can also buy an engraved brick for $100.00

Please send what you can afford today and perhaps check back to their website in the next month or two and if they are still short please write another check.
Take care, Eric (ericlighthouse) smile

This is one of the lighthouses that was helped by those present at last year's Grand Rapids regional. They ran a 50-50 drawing, and only brought a few tickets. When Bill indicated they had kind of a small jackpot, a bunch of us hit the audience using some extra tickets from our Hoosier Lighthousing Club. We managed to more than double the jackpot. Then, Randy Kremer won the 50-50 and ended up giving back to the group the majority of the money he won! These actions represent the true spirit of the members of this forum!

MJ and I are putting a check in the mail to help save this lighthouse. I encourage everyone reading this to make a donation and encourage at least one other friend to do the same. It would be a shame to let this light be lost.
