How about a Round Robin postcard exchange?

Basic rules. A packet of 10 new and unused postcards is sent out to the first person on the list. The 10 cards are obviously of lighthouses and no more than 2 are of the same lighthouse (but not duplicates). The first person reviews the cards, takes out however many they like and replaces the same number, same rules. Then they send it on, within 2 days (maximum of 5) to the second person on the list. The packet goes on to each person in turn until it comes back to the originator.

How about a little twist? We keep it going! When the packet comes back to me, I will make a new list, rearranging the order and adding any new people and sending the packet on again. If it gets unmanageable, we split it into 2 lists, changing participants so that we are mailing and receiving from different people. The obvious hitch is that one person can stop it. Looking back that was resolved previously by starting another packet. I can do that.

If someone wants a break, they can drop out for a round or two or more. If someone is going to be traveling, the list can be arranged around that. What do you think? Any other problems? Any suggestions? Sign up here and if I don't have your address and email, private message me.

Everyone knows how much I like the Postcard Exchanges (ALL OF THEM)! But this time I'll have to pass.... don't want to hold things up!

It's that time again when I have to move the hubby and his camper from one job to another. This time from Natchitoches, LA to Hamlet, NC. And I plan to stay with him in North Carolina for about a month before retuning home.

Laura, I like the idea of keeping it going as an on going thing. And I hope to be back in the swing of things by round 2 at which time you can add me in.

Ellie is #11, she will be back on the forum soon. Stephanie, I'll make sure to get you back in for the next round.

welcome
We could use some new people! Anybody interested? Only deal is you have to send the package on. It's easy. Any questions just ask. All you need is a few postcards to participate.

Laura, add me in. To everyone on the last postcard exchange, I'm sorry about taking so long getting my cards out to everyone. I had a couple issues arise with my job, raising my grandson and my fiancée with her waist surgery. I received everyone's postcards and they are very nice. Thanks! I believe this one will go smoother for me.

Thanks Again,
Don

Hi all:

I finally got back on and cleaned out my mailbox. I couldn't, for the life of me, to bring up lighthousekeepers.com so I went to search for it and here I am. Somehow I lost all the things in my dropdown menu. Guess it was because my daughter took my pc off line and put hers on. I even had to act like I was accessing my checking account from another pc. UGH!!

Haceta Head is my favorite light. Seeing it below the banner was like a b'day present from the forum. Thanks to all who wished me a happy birthday. It was great -- both my daughters were here. My older daughter and her family left yesterday for New Mexico to check out buying land there. My son-in-law makes drag race car bodies from fibre glas and he is looking to build a shop like he had built here before they moved to Sicily and get his business going again.

See you on the round robin.

Rick is in. He is in the hospital, but he will be in the exchange. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. And while you are at it, send him a note. Same address will work.

Its been a while since I did an exchange...2 years perhaps. They seemed to be fizzling at that time but I see new life and a pretty good sized number signed up...so count me in. I have lots and lots of cards!

One more day, any more takers? Sign up for the Round Robin postcard exchange! I had an "eagle" from across the pond send me the cards we will start out with. laugh

An "Eagle", please send them to me first Laura, I love John's subject and area of expertise! vhappy

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 07/29/10 05:26 PM

I think that can be arranged...
Nancy and I plan to spend a day with John Eagle when we go to Ireland and visit Fasnet. That is one plan I hope comes through. He takes you on a field trip for a lighthouse photography lesson. Can you imagine?

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 07/29/10 05:34 PM

John was very helpful on our trip to Ireland. although he had a 5 day lh tour that was very very expensive. Airplane rental in Ireland is ridiculous. The Fasnet trip should be awesome especially with JE's connection to it. A photo lesson too...

Could you save one for me Bob? I know by the time the Robin flys my way all the "eagle" cards will be gone frown

If it is not to late I would like to be a part of this exchange. I need to go card shopping.

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 07/30/10 03:19 PM

We now have 16...the more the merrier! Today will be the last for sign up. I will post the order later today.
Whew! The Eagle cards are popular! I will keep getting them to start the robins with. The order will keep changing so everyone will have a chance at them. There are more than a hundred available. cool
Question for those who have done more Round Robins than I have...Should we split it up? Should I start off with two robins?

Edited to add: Hilari, I need your address. Thanks.

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 07/30/10 03:58 PM

Laura,
It makes sense to start two Robins. These take longer since you're going house to house. You can then have the option in future to shuffle and change order so everyone gets different cards from different people. You can also compete to see who gets done first.
Bob

ps Did you get you pins yet?
Posted By: wvlights0

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 07/30/10 06:22 PM

Yes, I got the pins, they are great! I think you are right about the split. It works out pretty good this time. If I use the Mississippi as the dividing line, the robins can hop back and forth. Of course you know this means I have to split the Eagle cards...no worries, I have some of another kind I remember you liked.
Starting 2 new threads to post the order of the Robins and for each person to respond as they receive and send on the packet.

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 07/31/10 05:55 PM

Just back from the post office - robins departing West Virginia bound for New York and Colorado!
Robin A has 9 stops while Robin B has only 8. Robin B includes Rick, who is getting a little slack since he's dependent on others to send on the Robin. My fingers are crossed that no one drops the ball. Remember, the 2 to 5 days includes weekends! Let's see which one gets back to me first.

To all the RR exchange participants! Thanks to the efforts of Laura, Paul, Rich and I don't know who else I am finally back on the Forums! I got a new lap top that I can use here at the re-hab hospital I'm at and I had to get a new e-mail account which apparently messed up my Forms password and I finally figured out that I had not included my new e-mail in my initial contact w/Laura!!
Anyway, just wanted to let folks know that I'm in for the exchange and I hope that I do not hold up the flight of Robin since snail mail will go to Sis and she will have to get th Robin to me! towel towel vhappy

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 08/11/10 02:24 PM

This post is not about postcards, but since John Eagle was mentioned several times in the posts, I thought the participants might be interested in the the following.

In May or June 2010, Eagle authored a 200+ page soft cover book titled Ireland's Lighthouses: A Photo Essay.

ISBN 10 : 1848890249
Height : 1.02 inches
Width : 6.85 inches
Length : 9.53 inches
Weight : 1.46 pounds

List price in the U.S. is $34.95

Amazon and Barnes & Noble are offering it at $25.51 and $25.16 respectively, both with free shipping.

If you click on Amazon's "search inside the book" there is a nice cover photo and table of contents listing the many lighthouses included in the book.

Looks like a wonderful book at an excellent price and thus I ordered one from Amazon.

Re: Round Robin 2010-1 Sign up - 08/11/10 08:35 PM

I just received an authographed copy of his book "An Eagle's view of Irish Lighthouses". First Edition, now out of print. Softcover, 86 pages, a field-guide book that contains pictures from above, notes the nearest town, brief history of the lights, and directions to get to the lights.

Bought it directly from John on his website http://www.johneaglephoto.com/ 15.99 Euros plus shipping. I'll also add this post to the "Books" thread.

His postcards are also available for purchase in singles or groups. I purchased the entire set of lights of Ireland. He also has lights of UK/Europe and "Rest of the World including US".

All purchased paid for via PayPal.

More re Melody's post

You have misread Eagle's order page as I initially did the same. He does not have UK/Europe or "Rest of the World including US" lighthouse postcards. They are simply links on his order page to determine the different shipping charges for countries other than Ireland.

For those that are not aware, he is currently selling a complete set of 99 Ireland lighthouse postcards with images of every currently existing Irish lighthouse and plus 1 signed card for a total of 100 postcards. The total cost is 40.00 Euros plus shipping of 11.40 Euros to the US. At a current conversion rate of approximately $1.30US per Euro, it amounts to about $67.00US or about 67 cents per postcard including the shipping which seem fairly reasonable to me.

Melody has provided the correct website information for his postcards and 2 lighthouse books as well as other items.

Are we still putting a notation on the forum when one sends out Robin and possibly to whom it was sent?
