Coquille Postcard- Abandoned Bandon - 06/11/03 12:08 AM

Here's a post card I just got off of eBay showing the Bandon River (Coquille) Lighthouse at some point between 1939 when it was decommissioned and 1976 when the restoration was started. I'd say the card comes from no earlier than the mid 60's as it has a zip code on it.

Here's the back of the card.

Just thought some might be interested in the before picture. you can go here for the present state and info on the more complete restoration planned for Coquille.

One thing about lighthouse postcards Dennis. You don't have to go back all that far to see some in pretty bad shape! I've got a "modern chrome" card of the Round Island, MI Lighthouse that shows it with a big chunk out of it. It's also refered to as "abandoned" but says "Efforts are underway to restore the old landmark." It wasn't mailed but there's a notation on the back dated 9-2-76 that says "It is now restored but retains its picturesqness. Is much painted."
