Box Collecting - 09/15/00 09:47 PM

As you all have realized by now, in addition to collecting Harbour Lights Lighthouses, you also become a collector of Harbour Lights BOXES !!!! I'm a Newbie with only about 40 lights, but the BOXES ARE KILLING ME!!!! I can buy new cases to display, but I may have to add on to my house for the BOX STORAGE!!! Any suggestions??, remember the boxes do not collapse!!

George,

It is difficult living in Florida where we have such limited storage (no basements and small attics). The boxes for the older pieces can be folded since there is no styrofoam, only peanuts and those can be replaced. I was also thinking of renting a small storage unit because if I ever did have to sell part or all of my collection, the boxes would double the price I would get. It's a dilemma.

Box storage can be a pain but it is a necessary evil. I have over 200 of them and I'm running out of room to store them. I recently took up another hobby, Lionel Trains. As soon as I build the tables for the layouts I'll also have more storage room underneath the tables.

I have found that the space under the bed is just the right size for most of the box sizes. And it keeps the dust bunnies from making a home there. You can also line the back of your closet with them, about two layers high dosen't affect your cloths. My son has a collections of stamps that he is covering the wall with on poster board, maybe you could build a wall in the den or play room? They are bound to have some insulation quality to them.

Guess you guys haven't solved the problem either. a)I live in Florida (no basements or attics), b) my walkin closets (2) are full of boxes and I may have to sacrifice clothes and become a nudist, c)under the beds are already full due to a). It appears that my only option is to sell the house and move north to get a basement and an attic and maybe a storage shed. Guess I'll do it, look for me in NC in March!!!!:ee: :eek

Question? Do you have a push up ceiling in your house? Put the boxes over head and store them up there. Another idea is to throw away all of your furniture and use them for chairs, sofa, table. Just throw a cover over them with some foam and walla! instant furniture with storage.
