Showcasing smaller HL's

Just wondering if anyone who collects the Anchor Bay ships has ever used the glass case to display one of the smaller HL's. The elusive Sister(s) Island, for example, just fits. Simply turn the base around and display the name card that comes with the light. As the height only allows about a 5" tall HL this will only work for a few. You can gain another 1/2 inch by not using the base. Just a thought on varying your display.

Hey Mombo, ... I keep all my Anchor Bay glass cases on my Anchor Ships. They keep any stray dust off the boats which would be a little difficult to dust.

I kept the Anchor Bays under their glass. Don't want to dust them. For our thumbnails and spyglass pieces, I put them in a dark wood shadow box. They look great in it against the dark wood. I may do the same thing with our ornaments if I can find a shadow box wide enough.

I have a narrow five shelf c.d. tower. It is made of wood and has a glass front door. This cabinet is great for displaying ornies, and some of the smaller size LE's. The taller tower LE's will not fit, but it works good for the stubby models.

Bob: My "showcased" light display is meant to be temporary. The ship can be otherwise protected from the elements during this time.
While I adore the ship that the case is meant to display, giving Sister(s) a time to be high-lited this way is neat.

While we have previously discussed individual means of displaying our lights it is great to see some new ideas popping up here. We have a lot of new folks here since the last discussion who can contribute. And I'm sure those of us who have been here for a while have also come up with new ideas they could share as Randall and Todd have done.

Recently I called the local glass shop and had them cut some pieces of regular 1/8" plate glass into sizes that I had determined would accomodate two of my HL's (I was doing this as an experiment since my HL's are displayed on open-shelving). After picking them up I brought them home and used some super-glue to glue them together...(I wanted to try this on a small scale, at first...) Wa-La....it worked out pretty well. So now I'm in the process of putting together a glass enclosure that will handle 5 HL's. All-in-all, I've got about $12 in the first enclosure and I'll probably have about $16 in the second one. Obviously, there is an "economy of scale" doing the larger ones.
Its not for everybody but I found it to be economical, tedious, and fun.
If the second works out O.K., then I'll probably try an even larger one.
The initial idea came from my AB's but without the mirror on the backside. That would be nice, too, except it really starts to run the price up at that point.

Do they still make those mirror tiles? Seems as though the individual tiles were about 12 inches square? Don't think they were terribly expensive but you probably would have to buy a boxful.

Mombo.....those mirror tiles are 12" square but its been so long since I've purchased them that I don't know either the cost or whether you can buy them individually or not, anymore. Back in the 80's I bought some and it seemed to me that they used to keep some "open boxes" around for people who needed just a few at a time. I also remember that they were somewhat difficult to cut because they were so thin and even though they were about the same thickness as eighth-inch, they were weaker than regular plate glass because of the process of making it into a mirror made'em weaker....'something like that. Anyway....that's a good idea to pursue.....Thanks!!

Actually I was just thinking of those mirror tiles a short time ago. Was thinking that maybe they could be used to cover the inside back of a bookcase providing you could affix them so that they wouldn't crash down on the HL's. The reflection would help brighten up the display.

I've been looking for one of those coffee tables with the glass top and a 'drawer' that slides out from under the glass top. I figure it would make a great display for the miniature lighthouses - spyglass, thumbnails, miniatures and ornaments.

I've seen two of these at the local 'naked furniture' store (unfinished). But I need to wander over there with some ornaments and see how many it could handle.

Might it surprise anyone that HL has now released 29 Lighthouse Ornaments? 8 in 1996 and 4 each year since + 5 Society Exclusive Ornaments. A full set at retail would be $435 @ $15. Last year, 6,400 Sea Girt Society Exclusives were sold.

Mombo....the last time that I bought those 12 x 12 squares they supplied some tabs that had adhesive on both sides. Maybe now, you have to buy those seperately...but...they really do a pretty good job of keeping the tiles in place. The tabs are relatively small....something like an inch square (give or take). They are kind of spongy, but not thick, so as to work with varied surfaces. Mine were applied to a wall and I never had any of them fall.

John....let us know what you find out about that table.....that really sounds nice. I'm interested in hearing more about that, too!

Seriously, I have a friend in Florida who has a glass topped coffee table. I believe she has a seashell display in hers. This was a few years back that I saw it. I can ask her if she knows the manufacturer if you want.

Is Bambi included with the table?
