Replacement Flashing Bulbs for Lens & Lighthouses - 10/24/14 01:11 AM

For anyone needing a replacement bulb for a 3.0V flashing light used in a lighthouse or lens you might want to read the following from a collector that recently had to replace one.

Both Bulb Direct replacements (see attached item) arrived today. Both work as desired – for at least one hour so far. One flashes a little more rapidly than the other, but not objectionably so. When my wife and I compared the illumination of both with that from a non-flashing 2.7 volt replacement (the only one locally available; none could be had marked exactly 3.0 volt), all appear to the eye to be about the same.

The 4.9 volt code 0407-EI ($0.66) from Bulbdirect.com referred to above continues to function after perhaps 8 hours of use.

Curious if you know of anyone who has successfully replaced the bulbs in a lighted lighthouse. I have an HL720 Marquette, MI xmas edition where the bulb burned out after several hours of use. Unscrewed the battery compartment to see how the electronics were assembled and it didn't appear to me that the bulb could be replaced very easily.

The best I can see is to carefully remove the lantern Room itself so you can replace the bulb which may be solder to the 2 wires coming from the battery compartment. Of course you may also break the lantern room cover itself and not be able to reoair it so it is best to not worry about the burned out bulb.

Rich, Thanks for the advice! Think I'll learn to live with the burned out bulb since it's not worth potentially damaging the sculpture.
