Coast Guard Treasure - 01/09/00 08:09 PM

During a recent visit to the Coast Guard Headquarters for the 9th District in the Federal Building in Cleveland, I happened across a display of all the Great Lakes LH's from HL's first two years. Included on a desk in the lobby were: Sand Island, Fort Niagra,Old Mckinac, Cana Is, Grosse Point, Marblehead, Buffalo, Michigan City, and Split Rock. All of these pieces were Canadian and had aerials. When questioned, the secretary shrugged her shoulders and stated "Those old things have been there for years collecting dust. I don't know where they came from". Check them out if you're ever there.

You should have offered to buy those old things, after all, the USCG are looking to sell the lighthouses they have now.

"those old things"!

How sacriligious. To think of those HL's just sitting on a desk in the lobby, makes me cringe. If they had any idea of the value, they would take better care of them.

Maybe you should have offered to replace them with "new" ones as a service to the USCG.
