Top Ten on Ebay Aug 2007

1.Coquille River 111 $1,800

Quote:
It is number 42 and comes with a brown box marked Castle Studios, Ontario, Canada. It has “Coquille Lighthouse” plus “lighthouse box only” handwritten on the outside. The Castle Studios stamp is there too. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity and has tape on it as well as a tear on the side. The lighthouse is in good condition, no chips or cracks. There are a few spots along the bottom edge where the paint wore off. This statue has a green door with three panels on it.
This is definitely a bargain for a California mold and it even comes with the brown box. The last two, double digit Coquilles that were on ebay went for around $2500 each.

2. Cape Hatteras #102 mold one. $711.98

Quote:
This is a Harbour Lights lighthouse from 1991, #102, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Low tag #77/5500. No COA or box. This one has a broken tip of the light tower, otherwise good condition.
This is the California made version (made, painted, and boxed in California) and if it had a tip it would be white. This is the second time a CH-1 with a broken tip, has been on ebay. The first one went for $588. Generally a white tip version goes for $3000 to $3800. I feel that the $711.98 is a fair price and it may have given someone a CH-1 that normally would not have one. The ventilator ball breaking off was very common on the first 17 Harbour Lights and when Castle studios finally reworked the molds the ventilator ball was increased in size and reinforced with a stronger collar or in some cases a collar was added.

3. 102 Cape Hatteras NC Mold 2 $380.00 (Reserve not met )

Quote:
This is Canadian made and has the lightning rod. It comes with the original white Castle Studios box, and a mint Cape Hatteras U.S. Lighthouse Bicentennial Commemorative Stamp from 1989. All stickers in place (on box & bottom of piece), and Certificate of Authenticity. The piece is signed by Bill Younger and is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks or scratches.
This is the going price for a CH-2. I checked some ebay prices that I wrote down for this year. They were from $200 to $600. Generally it usually doesn’t go for more than $400

4. West QUODDY HEAD MAINE #103 $202.50

Quote:

This is a Harbour Lights lighthouse #103, W. Quoddy Head, Maine, 1991. This one has a low tag number of 77/8500. No COA or box. There is one small chip on the side of the top of the lighthouse. Otherwise good condition.
This is the extremely rare, pink windowsill version. This one was made, painted, and boxed from California. If it had the box it would have been the plain brown version. It is in excellent shape except for the damage above the light. Because of how rare it is the small damage can be ignored when it comes to value.
It is well worth what it went for. I feel that this is on the low side of its true value. I call the true value, the value of a lighthouse would have if it was professionally listed and had all the interested players in place for a bid. I feel that the true value is between $350 and $500.

5. ADMIRALTY HEAD WA #101 $191.86

Quote:
This is a 1991, Admiralty Head, Washington #101. Low tag #80/5500. No COA or box. Good condition with no chips or cracks.
Again this is the California made version. (Made, painted, and boxed from California). If it had the box it would have been the plain brown version. This is in excellent shape and is also very hard to find. This one is so rare that as far as I know this is the first time an Admiralty Head has been on ebay with numbers less than 258. The reason is that the early HL’s were promoted by Bill on the West coast and was absorbed by local lighthouse lovers not the east coast lighthouse collectors.

6. OLD POINT LOMA #105 $113.71

Quote:
Harbour Lights lighthouse from 1991, Old Point Loma, Ca #105. Low tag #81/5500. No COA or box. This came from an estate and is in good condition with no chips or cracks.
This is definitely a bargain. It is the California made version with the full light gray felt. This old Point Loma is easier to find than the California made, West Quoddy and Admiralty Head; but not that easy. There has been three Old Point Lomas on ebay with numbers less than 250. One when last year for $130.25 and an other one went for $450 back in 2002. Note the High Lightning Rod.

7. Coast Guard 44' Life boat AB110S $113.01

Quote:
Introduced in Jun 1999, this exquisitely detailed Harbour Lights
sculpture was retired in Nov 2001. Comes with Glass case and certificate of authenticity.
This is the glass case version with aproximatly 2,500 made. When HL decided to sell the 44 foot Life Boat without case they removed the crew, changed the number to AB113 and made its production amount 4,000. Well you know all of that, its all in the new HL collectors book. What you don’t know was that the Rich Felter talked HL in making the AB 113 into an open edition so that instead of 6,500 44 foot life boats L.E. there would only be 2,500. L.E.’s. I am not sure that that information moved on to the new owners, but I do see that the HL website does state that the AB113 is open. So I believe that on sheet 381 of the HL official Collectors guide the edition for the AB113 should read “open” not 4,000.

Back to ebay. I feel that the AB110S is doing quite well in the secondary market field. The original price was $125 and it sold for $113.01 on ebay. That is only 10% off the original price. As collectables go now-a-days that is pretty good.

8. SANDY HOOK NJ #104 $105.28

Quote:
This is a Harbour Lights lighthouse #104, 1991, Sandy Hook, NJ. Low tag #78/5500. No COA or box. This came from an estate. This might have a chip on the roof line but can't tell. It's a little rough in one spot. Otherwise good condition.
A California made, painted and boxed. This is another “California made” bargin. Even without the box I would expect $350. Since 1998 there has been four others on ebay with numbers less than 250. I don’t have any prices written down except for the one I purchased from ebay back in 2002. That was $495, but it came with the plain brown box.

9. SAND ISLAND WI. 1991 #109 $104.50

Quote:
The lighthouse measures 5 1/2 inches high and about 6 inches long. The Felt on the bottom does NOT go all the way to the edges. Comes with the Certificate of Authenticity. This is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is no box.
This is a California mold piece. The mold was made in California and was probally painted in California. Then it was sent to Canada where the flocking was added and sent out in a brown castle studios box.

Again another rare California Lighthouse and should have at least went for $200 without box. Way to go Bob.

10. 1991 UMPQUA OREGON $90.65

Quote:
This is a Harbour Lights lighthouse from 1991, Umpqua, Oregon. Low tag #72/5500. No COA or box. This came from an estate.
This one has no bottom label so I don't know the item number, just the tag # written on the side. Teeny chip on one corner of roof line.
A California mold but boxed and flocked in Canada. It is the version with no grass around the sidewalk entrance. The two variations are shown on page 422 of the HL collector’s book. The picture in the upper left hand side is of the Umpqua 107, not the Yaquina 110. The Grass-less version is the most rare of the two. True value worth is $200 to $250 with out box.

Nice report as usual. A lot of interesting tidbits, especially the one about the 44' MLB. It took a lot of talking that day to Bill and a statement that he had told me years ago about "never bringing out 2 versions of the same LE without DRASTIC Changes being made". He is a true man to his word.

Interesting report, Daniel. Thanks for sharing that information with us. You can still find some great old HL's on eBay every once in awhile.

DANIEL,

I'd been looking for a California, SAND ISLAND, WISCONSIN piece for a long, long time.

I just had to jump on this one -- box or no box.

Anyone know where I can get a Bremerhaven, Germany that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Ebay doesn't list one and I know it is now retired.
