#102 on E-bay - 02/20/03 12:58 AM

I just seen a Hatteras # 102 signed on e-bay with a small chip on the top and a few chips on the bottom. Any guesses on what this will go for???

It's possible.

bidding is up to $51 with days to go. This may get to be an expensive piece.

Because of the imperfections/damage, and taking into consideration the actual value if the piece was MIB, and the fact it has a Canadian sticker but a very high number nearing the end of the run, and the fact that this "run-on" sentence is fast becoming a paragraph and I'm wondering if the topic sentence of a paragraph can actually be a paragraph itself, I would estimate that someone, maybe even someone from the CF will end of paying as much as $150-$175 to be the owner of this rare piece especially when it will probably be displayed and not resold in the future when the new owner would have to deal with explaining the imperfections/damage.

Boy, would my old English grammar teachers flunk me for that one!

Interesting. I'll have to follow that one to the end of the bidding. The "Made in Canada" sticker (on the bottom) is different than mine, but, I guess that's not unusual, is it??

For a man of few words you said a mouthful there Bob! Can you diagram that sentence for us?

(Assuming, of course, that we are the same vintage. I guess I'm lucky that I can even remember doing it, let alone remember how it's done!)

How about all those white spots where the top chip is? Are they supposed to be there?

What an interesting dilemma...to bid or not to bid. The chips appear to be minor. I could certainly live with them.

But then again, knowing that the damage renders it a shell of its former self, do I like it THAT much? The GLOW is better proportioned. "On the Move" is a certified "Wow!™". None of my friends or acquaintances would give a tinker's damn that I had an original Hatteras in my curio cabinet. Other collectors would scoff—"It's CHIPPED, you know."

But then again, chips or no chips, it IS the original Hatteras..."My Precioussss."

Yup, it may be an expensive proposition. Just checked it out and it is up to $76 with 5 days to go. As was said, the nicks are not bad especially the ones on the bottom. It might be a way to get a display piece without a mint price.

It's up to $127.50 as of 10pm est Thursday. For all its faults...not worth it. $100 max.

Re: #102 on E-bay - 02/21/03 06:30 AM

I was tempted to bid since I only need three pieces to finish my original 17. As the price gets steeper, I now tell myself that there will be other pieces in better condition, and, if I'm going to spend a good chunk of money, why not wait and get the piece in better condition.

I just made my Max bid on this piece, or so my wife says we will see. Ron1z

I for one have given up on this one. I agree, if I am to spend this kind of money for a damaged one, I can a some more bucks and get a mint one. I ahve been finding out the "Banks" lighthouses of the original edition vitage may not make it into my collection. They are QUITE expensive. I am really concidering those "EVER POPULAR" GLOW editions. Everything else is moving down but not the originals. frown

Re: #102 on E-bay - 02/26/03 01:12 PM

That's quite a sum of money for a damaged piece. I really didn't think it would sell that high.

Re: #102 on E-bay - 02/26/03 01:52 PM

I was in the bidding for awhile. I noticed that someone had placed a high bid at least twice that jumped the price considerably when others enetered a single bid at a time. Someone, or a few bidders, wanted the piece a lot.

Sounds like a few proxy bidders to me! That is quite a chunk of change for a damaged Cape Hatteras, especially one that has been touched up just a bit.
