Newbie

Newbie - 09/24/99 10:43 PM

After my wife and I have been collecting Harbour Lights for a number of years and also visiting the web-site frequently, it seemed like the right time to take the plunge and get in touch with the rest of the lighthouse world. We enjoy reading the forums and hope that we can become productive participants. Being way up in northern Wisconsin we seemed to be quite isolated from alot of the central activities that go on with clubs and Harbour Lights. We look forward to this with great anticipation.

Re: Newbie - 09/25/99 09:25 PM

Welcome to Gomez, who comes from the town with the HUGE fish statue. I am a WI native, and just spent 3 weeks there in St. Germain lake country, right during that big tornado that took down hundreds of thousands of trees in the north country.

The only lighthouse I have seen in the north country is a fake one attached to the Beacon Resort on Lake Minoqua, in Minoqua. Guess you will have to go over to Duluth,MN, and work your way up the lake shore; or over to Door County and down the Lake Michigan shoreline to the Ill. border -- there are quite a few nice ones, including Sturgeon Bay and Racine's Wind Point.

There is a Harbour Lights collector club in Wis, a very active one, called The Great Lakes Harbour Lights club. It is based in Milwaukee with Pres. Jim Johnson, but they hold meetings and Outings around the state. You can find his address and contact phone if you scroll down the left side of this lavendar HL webpage and look for Collecting. The club roster section is then listed under that for you to click onto.

Also on the Forums here, keep scrolling until you see the heading, Collector Clubs. Members post information on upcoming club meetings and events.

And please read my posting right near yours, about how you can become a wacko, become eligible to buy the pin, and do your part in helping to save a lighthouse. E-mail me if you want more info on it. Keep the Flame, Ladylightkeeper

Just a quick correction on Ladylightkeeper's note above, the president of the Great Lakes Collectors Club is my friend with the t, Jim Johnston. He will be glad to welcome you to their club and put you to work on one of their worthy projects.

Welcome Gomez,

I also am a Newbie. I have only been on the forum for about 3 months, and have found a wealth of information and talent.

Whatever question I have asked, there was someone who would point me in the right dirrection.

I found the hardest post to put on the forum was the first, and you've done that, so its nothing but the best from here on out.

Welcome Gomez & Bert. You are now part of a very large family which stretches across our nation (and beyond). I am glad that you decided to post here and hope that your doing so is an inspiration for others who haven't posted yet. It's nice having you both aboard.

Gomez:

Welcome to the zany world of Harbour Lights and the fine folks who inhabit these forums! I see you hail from beautiful and scenic Hayward, Wisconsin, and I think you should feel lucky to live there.

I get to fly up to Hayward occasionally and always enjoy the view of pristine forests and state parks, all bejeweled by the myriad of lakes to be found in the region.

FYI, if you are able to get down to Minneapolis sometime, you might care to know that there are no fewer than 10 HL dealers in the area!

If you have the interest, let me know and I'll offer my opinion on the ones worth visiting who have the larger displays and sometimes will deal or who have sales.

Welcome!

Welcome to our world, Gomez. How are things up in Heyward? I used to go fishing up around Minoqua. I miss the summers up there.
