Question about new registrations...

Question about new registrations... - 04/29/08 03:02 PM

Is there any reason why our number of registered members hasn't changed for quite some time. It seems we've been frozen at 1978 for well over a month. Have we had any new inquiries at all?

We are presently updating our server and associated software. Hopefully it will be done very soon. John can shed more light on the updates.

Where are all the new people? We should be adding new members almost daily. Have we become that uninteresting that no new person wants to jump on board?

 Bob

At this point it is impossible for a new person to register no matter how much they want to. The software has a glitch that will not allow them to. When the software has been updated to the current version we will be back in business for new members.

Any word on when new members will be able to register with us? Haven't seen any for quite some time. We need growth to keep this BBS going.

Looks like we've become an exclusive forum with a closed membership. That's too bad, because we could sure use some new input to keep this thing going.

I'll second the concerns enumerated above!!

Is someone working daily on getting the software problem fixed? Have they run into problems?

Do we have a date for the fix to be completed?

I firmly agree with all the above comments. We are only hurting ourselves by not getting the registration process up on line.

hits on the exact problem. We are shooting outselves in both feet by not fixing this problem.

If a person tries to register here and can't, then they will probably be disappointed. If they try multiple times without success, then they will probably never be back. It has been a longtime since we had any new people join.

I feel the registration problem is a priority and should be corrected.

Re: Question about new registrations... - 06/19/08 01:00 AM

I have tried on several occasions to try and get a update from John, to no avail. He may or may not be out of town and only he, to the best of my knowledge, has the answer. The money to upgrade was paid out of the Exclusives Funds and we are still waiting. I agree, no new members and slowly we are loosing potential new members. The people updating are not taking our concerns to be their priority.

Re: Question about new registrations... - 06/19/08 11:02 AM

I received this email this morning:

Quote:
I have been going to the LIGHTHOUSEKEEPERS web page for almost a year and I have never been able to register as a new member or login.....Therefore little to no contact with other collectors.....Neither can I correspond directly with someone while on that web page because it always flashes up the following message, "default mail client is not properly installed".

Yes I would like to join, but after almost a year I am getting tired of being denied access. Certainly I am not a large collector or a very knowledgeable collector, but I do enjoy it and have a collection of about 105 Limited Edition Lighthouses, about 14 Collectors Society Limited Edition Lighthouses, about 10 Special Limited Edition Lighthouses, and about 60 Open Edition Lighthouses (GLOW) or just shy of 200 total.

Maybe someone could let me know someday if you are taking new members....

Thanks
I don't know if it's for real, but it could be. I do hope we can correct the problem real soon.

Well it has not been a year since people where abe to joint, but I guess if you where trying to join it may seem like a year.

John has not posted on the forums for over two weeks. Should we start a shearch team.

Re: Question about new registrations... - 06/21/08 02:11 PM

Bob - If that person had been trying to join for over a year, then they had something in their application that was not desireable for the Forums. I have been reviewing all applications since becoming moderator 3-4 years ago and if I wasn't sure about someone I would let Dave research further. We have been down 4-5 months now so the longest it could have been is that time frame. I do agree with everyone in that we are loosing potential new members daily and it is time that we got made right again.

Well?? Another 2-3 weeks have passed since we expressed our concerns. What's being done to update the software? Can new people register yet?

Re: Question about new registrations... - 07/04/08 11:12 PM

John has indicated that he will be working on the Forums update this weekend. As of now we can not register new members and won't be able to until John does his thing.

Nope it ain't workin. The username that I was using got corrupted. I tried registering as a new user with a new email address and it wouldn't let me regsiter. So now I am back to using one of my older usernames.

When I saw the BuyGlass log-in name, I thought I was back in the old AOL bulletin board days.

Re: Question about new registrations... - 07/29/08 01:01 AM

It's still in John's court. We are loosing new members daily that cannot register. We were averaging 1-2 new members each week prior to the system going bad and requiring an update. It's now been almost 5 months that we have not been able to welcome new members. This has cost us approximately 20-40 new members. I would suggest that every member email John and ask him what is going on. The last time I emailed John he told me he would be working on it and have it updated the 4th of July weekend. That was a month ago.

Perhaps 1978 is a "magic" number? The Winter of '78 was a real hoot here on the East Coast/New England.

Seems like John is very busy with other things. I'm betting it's his real job keeping him busy.

Re: Question about new registrations... - 07/30/08 04:50 PM

Can anyone help? I am happy to help out, but not sure what can be done. And if I can do what-ever. But the situation is getting a bit dire, isn't it?

Something should be done soon! We need more members! Or do I see that wrong?

John
Where do we stand with the updates and the ability for non-members to register?
Are there some major problems?

Re: Question about new registrations... - 08/05/08 05:34 PM

One thing that we have all heard awhile ago is that the current forums is based on old software (v6.4.0). I don't know if ours can be updated to the latest version or not. (see Infopop link at bottom of screen)

Re: Question about new registrations... - 08/05/08 07:15 PM

When it happens it will be a two step process. May happen one after the other or there may be a bit of time between the two. First have to upgrade to the last supported version of the UBB Classic then will make the jump to the current Threads version of software. Whenever it gets done, hopefully we will be good for a while.

Re: Question about new registrations... - 08/05/08 11:12 PM

I've posted information on the upgrade process and some explanation of the delays in this thread I'll continue to upgrade that one. In the meantime until we get the first step of the upgrade done (see the post), new members can't register. Hopefully that will be taken care of in just a few days.

Re: Question about new registrations... - 08/08/08 07:44 PM

It's updated and before I good even do a test registration some bozo spammer got in thee to test the system. Needless to say he won't be joining us.

All those who have wanted to register but could not, please give a try again. Thanks for your patience.

I am going to now close this thread so that any discussion can take place in the thread John linked to in the post before this one.
