I'm still a novice at this.
Just wanted to let everyone know Kentucky has quite a few lighthouse lovers. I have been reading the forums for a long time but just didn't feel comfortable in writing until now. VSNLEX in Lexington, KY helped motivate me. I love the forums. Thanks, KYKEEPER

Pat...glad you came on board. Just had a lovely weekend in Louisville. Did the Speed Art Museum with wife and friends. Picked up a new LH for my collection at Hallmark on Hubbards lane and say all your maps to the club meetings. Will see you on the 12th.

Dave H., I was in the nuclear field in the navy. I was qualified as an ELT that is why my name is navyelt. I tried the reserve thing, but I found it too boring for me.

Jim Johnson, Can you tell me where the good harbour lights dealers are nearby? Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks to all for the welcome!

Re: Where are you from? (Part 5) - 03/10/00 02:32 AM

I am from Richmond, Indiana
I got my membership as a Christmas present from my husband. Today I got my 7th lighthouse so far. He says I have to slow down on my purchases for a while. We went to Cape Cod/New England last summer on our honeymoon and I have pictures of 5 different lighthouses. Some of which I have purchased
Beth
Today I got the Statue of Liberty since we saw her last Oct.
The deal is I have to go see the lighthouse first before I can purchas one.

Welcome Harbour lighters from KY, NY, IN. Back about 2 1/2 years ago I had 9 LEs and it was then that I submitted a poem that was posted in the legacy. YOu have just started in a brand new world and you will love it. We have a lot of fun and learn a lot about our lighthouses.

Enjoy your collecting.

Re: Where are you from? (Part 5) - 03/19/00 06:23 PM

I am from the Florida Keys, Plantation Key, town of Tavernier. This is the next Key below Key Largo.

We have many lighthouses out on the reef line such as American Shoal. See them every day.

I am a little late making a post here, but want to join the gang, and get another post credit.

A belated "welcome" to you, Harry . I'm envious of anyone who can "see the lights everyday". I guess I can too....if you are taking into consideration that "they" are calendars, mugs, HL's, and various other ensundry LH memorabilia ! Otherwise, I live about 5 hours away from the "real thing".

Re: Where are you from? (Part 5) - 03/19/00 11:01 PM

Thanks Brent for the welcome. The screw pile lights on the reef line are a very nessary aid to navigation. Even small pleasure craft use them to keep off the reefs. I used Alligator reef light Friday on an offshore cruise. They will never be moved as Hatteras was. They have remained on station for from 150 to 175 years. No hurricane has taken them down.

I too want to welcome Harry, and to express my envy as well. Living in the mountains of Arizona makes lighthousing a bit of a challange. Closest to me are 9 hours away in LA or San Diego. Would love to be able to see the real things every day.

I am from Clearwater, FL. Started collecting Harbour Lights in 1993. Retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, spent most of my Coast Guard career working in the Aids to Navigation (Lightships, Buoy Tenders, Light Attendant Stations and servicing Lighthouses). I have found the forum to be a great reference source for my hobby.

Stayed in the Belair Biltmore, visited Egmont Key, of course got pictures of the lighthouse there, snorkled off Egmont, even took the science cruise with the kids. We had a great time. I like the gulf coast of Florida much better that the Atlantic Coast.

Jerry and Denise

Welcome Also. I have not been up to Oregon yet but plan to see all of the west coast lights. So will get up that way sooner than later.Looking forward to your input too. I collect mostly west coast and Florida HL's. Do you have all of the west coast HL's yet?

Hello to everyone. I'm a newbie since I just found this board. I'm from southeastern CT, but summered in Maine as a kid. That is where my facination with lighthouse began. I've been collecting Harbour Lights for about 4 years, and have lighthouses all over my house. I haven't yet mede a lighthouse journey, but (hopefully) plan to start that this summer. I have so many nearby, but would love to them more upclose and personal.I can't wait to get to know the wonderful people on this board. Thanks to all of those that have warmly welcomed me already.

Re: Where are you from? (Part 5) - 04/15/00 02:36 PM

Hi everyone... as a "newbie" to this Forum, I am so happy to find others who love HL collecting as much as I. I have truly been blessed to have found this site, and discover new friends. I'm orginially from PA, but now live in Charlotte, NC. I have been married now for 22 years to a wonderful lady. I am retired from the Coast Guard after 20 years of service from 1972 to 1992. I am now a Broadcast Engineer - building radio stations throughout the country as well as Central and South America. I served a tour in Vietnam; served aboard three different Coast Guard cutters; various SAR (Search and Rescue) stations such as Station Littlecreek, VA, Stations Oregon Inlet and Ocracoke, NC. A tour at HQ in D.C.; MSO Hampton Roads (Norfolk, VA) and various Aids To Navigation Teams around the country (which is where I got my interest in lighthouses). I was fortunate to be involved in repairing such lighthouses as Cape May, NJ; Currituck Light, NC; Cape Henry, VA; Cape Neddick, ME; Cape Blanco and Heceta Head in Oregon. WHEW!!! Anyway... my thanks to the many wonderful people here on the Forums.

Hello! I am from Wisconsin. I have about 16 Harbour Lights now. I have met Bill Younger. I have made the circle tour around Lake Superior and Lake Michigan visiting as many lighthouses as possible, including many of the difficult "out of the way" lighthouses. I have visited mostly Great Lakes lighthouses, but have also seen a few lighthouses around the Portsmouth NH area where a relative lives. My boyfriend already thinks I am a lighthouse "wacko".

Boy, a bunch of new folks! Welcome to all of you. You will find an unbelievable wealth of information on this sight. Not just about Harbour Lights, but about lighthouses in general and lighthousing (the term used here for traveling to visit lighthouses). Need directions or information? Someone can probably come up with them, just post the question!

Will be looking forward to seeing many more posts from all of you. Welcome!

Welcome to all the newcomers to these forums.

ladybeth, I am from Groton, CT (almost next door to you). Mary Jane (my wife) is from East Lyme (Niantic). We have been collecting Harbour Lights since about 1993 and we love all of the wonderful paople on the forums and at Harbour Lights.

Are you aware that there is a collectors club (made up of lighthouse lovers, most of whom collect Harbour Lights)right here in New England. The name of the club is New England Harbour Lights Lovers (NELL).

We are having a special event this coming June, at which the guest speaker will be Bill Younger (founder and conceptual artist of Harbour Lights, Anchor Bay & This Little Light of Mine). Bill will be at the buffet dinner and be the main speaker, as well as sign Harbour Lights. We have other events planned for the weekend, including a five hour lighthouse cruise of the lighthouses of eastern Long Island Sound.

We welcome you to join us. If you are interested you may email me or contact the event coordinator, Penny Patch at Penny@downcity.net.

I look forward to reading your future posts and maybe meeting you in person in the near future. Again, welcome to these wonderful forums.

Re: Where are you from? (Part 5) - 04/17/00 01:15 AM

Hi Ron, I noticed that you were from Groton the other day. I couldn't believe I never thought to look for a Harbour Lights web site until last week. I did one of those forhead slapping things when it dawned on me. I was thrilled to find this forum! I still can't get over that we are almost neighbors. I would love to find out more about NELL. My intrigue with light houses started when I used to summer in Maine. I was born in Portland and have always loved Portland Head. That is where it all began. I look forward to talking soon. Feel free to e-mail me. Beth

Hi all,

Just registered. Been lurking for quite a while.
From Lakeside, CA about 20 miles east of San Diego, CA.
I drive past Harbour Lights everyday to and from work and it takes all my will power not to bug them everyday.
