Bill Visits Michigan - 06/03/02 06:18 AM

Bill will be visiting the state of Michigan this coming weekend. His schedule calls for visits to the east side, the west side of the state and the UP (kinda equal opportunity). On this trip, Bill will also be the guest speaker at the Annual Dinner of the Big Sable Lighthouse Keepers.

First stop is in the east side of the state.
Friday, June 7
4 PM to 6 PM

Touch Of Country
5640 M-59
Howell MI 48843
517-546-5995

Saturday, Bill moves across the state to the shores of Lake Michigan:

Saturday, June 8
1 PM to 3 PM

Calico Cat Limited
10 Washington
Grand Haven MI 49417
616-846-5830
888-558-3030

Last stop for this trip is up north, in the UP, at the Whitefish Point Light Station:

Sunday, June 9
2 PM to 4 PM

Shipwreck Coast Gifts
18335 North Whitefish Point Road
Paradise MI 49768
906-635-1742

Come and visit with Bill. Remember that this year there will be one special version of the event piece (the Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse ) given away to a person at each of the signing events. You have to be present to win, and you have to buy an LE or event piece from that store to qualify for the drawing.

Who all will be able to make these events? Todd can you cover the Touch of Country event for us? 2 Beacons should be able to get to Grand Haven. Brighteyes will you get to the Shipwreck Coast event? If all else fails, traveling reporter WackoPaul will be at the events to report. Sign in, and don’t forget to leave a report after the event.

Dave

There was a very small turn out at the Howell, MI store... perhaps the 4pm start time on a work day had an effect... Bill did spend some quality time with those who did come out to see him..

Grand Haven tomorrow I will add some pictures then, I am sure..

"Very small turnout" = great odds to win the gold. Who picked that up Paul?

We had a great time yesterday in Grand Haven. The Calico Cat had a good turnout for Bill's visit. It was good to visit with everyone and see sneak previews of the new releases that are coming. The Rosemont event will be great since we will see them up close and personal.

After the event Jeff and I took Dave and Susan out to the lighthouse and no we didn't push him in the lake. It was a great day all in all----even if one of the Hoosier Lighthouse Club members didn't win gold at this event.

Re: Bill Visits Michigan - 06/10/02 03:05 PM

That is the magic of Photoshop, Ruthie... I cloned myself in the picture.

Paul are you pulling my leg or what how did you get it to look the same with the shadows on your face too? If you did...boy it's a great job!

Re: Bill Visits Michigan - 06/10/02 11:31 PM

Ruthie - Paul shoots one photo with himself missing and one is taken by, say Jeff who is missing. Then putting the two images together is 'easier'

John has the correct answer as to how the feat was accomplished.

Re: Bill Visits Michigan - 06/11/02 03:05 AM

This is the first image I shot....

Then I had Jeff come over to me ... I played back the digital image so he could see how to compose the shot, then I went over and stood in the empty spot in the first image..

Then using Photoshop I cloned me and in this case parts of other people and cars, trees etc

They actually used a similar technique in the real old time panorama picture days... everybody was told to stand absolutely still for a long time as the old time camera film was exposed by the lens turreting along the crowd in a line and exposing fresh film in a long strip. Several times people would run ahead an get in the picture a couple of times. Self cloning!

Re: Bill Visits Michigan - 06/11/02 05:37 PM

Why not use a tripod and a timer on the camera? Actually what camera did you use? I assume it was a digital but I could be wrong.

Re: Bill Visits Michigan - 06/11/02 08:07 PM

Now Chuck, what kind of a challenge would that be for Mr. Brady?
ps Paul, if BY hasn't already told you, I have exclusive Race Rock and Long Beach Bar pictures of BY holding the HL while cruising in front of each LH. Bill was quick to tell everyone nearby who I was competing with!!!LOL

Re: Bill Visits Michigan - 06/12/02 04:23 AM

I did use the tripod and timer method for the Old Michigan City Spring Cleaning group picture....

If you either have your tripod buried under a couple of suitcases and about 7 or 8 harbour Lights boxes plus a laptop and a 18 inch flat panel monitor or just just didn't bring it because you didn't even have room to bury it... you take two images and call me in the morning!

I shoot with a digtal Olympus E-10 and download them to my Mac laptop while on the road..
