Happy Thanksgiving

I would like to wish everyone on the Forums a Happy Thanksgiving from sunny and cold Ocala, FL.

Hope you had a nice turkey day, Rich. We don't do all the cooking anymore for just the two of us, but we have a local restaurant who has a nice, full meal in exchange for a free will donation to a local Christmas charity. Good food, good cause, don't have to cook, do dishes or deal with leftovers. And, don't overdo it.

That's exactly what we do when it's our turn to cook. The kids like to cook at their homes but when it's our turn we have 2 favorite restaurants that we like to go to. The kids think we should cook at home because "Who wants to eat out on Thanksgiving or Christmas?" My reply is "We do!"

I cooked even though just three of us. Made it easy on myself though...put a turkey breast in the big crockpot Wednesday night, and used Stove Top stuffing. A regular turkey just too much meat for us. I got to enjoy the parade and football too and made out my shopping stratedy for Black Friday. I did NOT go shopping on Thursday night, I decided I would NOT support the changes made by the stores.

Hey Mel, glad to hear I'm not the only Stove Top stuffing cooker, lol!

We went to a neighbor's house and her stuffing was made with gluten free bread. It actually turned out better than what she usually makes (once I dug it out of the bird). We were sitting at the table and I was looking around for the stuffing and couldn't spot it.

Some of that gluten free stuff is ok, if you spice it up with something - the stuffing, pasta with lots of stuff plus cheese. But I've had her cakes and on T'giving the pie crusts which were pretty bad. Her daughter made a g. f. cranberry bread that was wonderful. Guess it's a trial and error kind of thing. This neighbor is now 85 and suddenly this past year became gluten intolerant. Sure hope it doesn't happen to me!
