The Ancient Mariner Sails On - 10/13/00 12:24 AM

Just got a call from Fred Kuhlman (The Ancient Mariner). He reports he's reached his brother's place in Des Moines IA today.

Left San Jose on October 4
Overnights in Winamucka NV, Rawlings WY. Spent the weekend in Denver, then overnight in Indianola NE with a cousin.

On Sunday, Fred reports he'll be leaving for Kalamazoo where his daughter lives. After a stay there, he'll be heading to NY state to see Jim Johnson & Mombo, then to MA for a visit with Bob McKeon before turning back to Kalamazoo for another stay.

Fred sends his greetings. He's without an Internet connection or he'd be with us at tonight's chat.

Fred phoned last night to say that he would not be coming this far east. He was able to take care of whatever was bringing him this far via the phone.

We'll miss not seeing him this time but will look forward to seeing him in the future.

I spoke with Fred a couple of nights ago about the same subject. I'm sorry not to see him this Fall but I'm looking forward to seeing him in Baltimore next Fall.

Anybody hear anything from Fred? The last time I spoke with him was about two weeks ago. Where the heck is he now?

Fred signed on for a few minutes to last night's chat. He's still with his 'kid' in Kalamazoo and Paul and Rod are trying to talk him into making the Bill Event in Toledo on the 11th.

Fred Who??????

Still in Kalamazoo.

Will make the Toledo signing.

Skipping Indy.

Fair warning. You can call John W. and have him mail your piece to you,or you can hope you can slip in and out unnoticed.

Then heading for Dallas and places west (like Scottsdale and El Cajon - Hear one of them is reasonably close to a lighthouse. After being in the desert lands of Michigan, I should be able to find a lighthouse or a reasonable facsimile thereof).

Seriously. Hope to see as many of you as possible.

The Ancient Mariner

Wave as you go by Bremen, IN Fred. I'll be the one staring at the water tower trying to figure out how to turn it into a lighthouse.

We got to see Fred yesterday at the Bayside Treasures Bill event in Toledo. He looks good, and was busy chatting with all the connected collectors and other attendees. There is a picture of the group, including Fred, in the Events forum.

I just had a brief chat with Fred, he is in Kilgore, TX at the home of some former neighbors of his who have recently moved back to America (10 years or so living in England). Fred says he should make John Chidester's home by this Saturday. Then on to El Cajon, CA.....

I got a call from Fred today somewhere down on the New Mexico-Arizona border on I-10.

Fred's not feeling great - fighting a bug of some sort - so he's bypassing his stops in Scottsdale on Saturday and El Cajon on Monday and heading straight for San Jose.

He hopes to be back home by Sunday night. He does have some antibiotics that he's taking.

Keep Fred in your thoughts and prayers as he travels home.

Sail on Fred.

By now home should be in sight.

Take care and get rid of that nasty little bug.

Sunday, November 19 --

Fred called to say he arrived home last night before sunset. He sounds well. He won't be able to make the chat this week (Thankgiving Day at 10 PM ET), but looks forward to being there next week.

Over 6,000 miles and about 6 weeks on the road.
