Has Spring "sprung"? More snow to come?

Has Spring "sprung"? More snow to come? - 04/02/02 03:43 PM

Things are looking a little more like Spring in my neck of the woods. I live 15 miles north of Providence, Rhode Island, and about 35 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts. The closest saltwater to me is Narragansett Bay, and I can drive to Cape Cod in 35 minutes.

In 1997 we were smothered with a foot or so of snow on April 1st. In the late 70's, I believe it was 1977, we received 6 inches of heavy wet snow on May 9th. That snow broke many trees because all the leaves were out and the trees couldn't hold the weight of the snow.

What was the latest snow fall you remember in your "neck of the woods"? Please give us a rough idea where you're located.

I remember snow on the home opening baseball game in 1970. The Mets won the World Series in 69 and I went to the game to see them get their rings. It was about 30 degrees, and windy. Very few people attended because of the weather and you needing some help to stay warm. After the game, I went to class at St John's and when I came out of class there was 6 inches of snow on the ground. I remember doing a 360 in my MGB on the Grand Central on my way home. God was definitely my co-pilot that night.

Bob, we had a big snow on opening day for the Cincinnati Reds a few years ago! I would say 3 to 4 inches! They were able to clear the field and play the game. When they threw out the first pitch, they also threw out the first snowball! That would be around April 5th.

How much snow for everyone this year? We had about 7 inches total for the winter! Most of that came in one day! I think we consider ourselves very lucky! I bought a new 4 wheel drive truck on Feb 8th of this year and it hasn't seen any snow yet! Since it's new, this doesn't bother me at all!

Woke up this morning to an inch of snow. It was sunny all day so now it's gone but don't believe it was higher than 36 degrees, brrrr.

January 23, 1991. Although my wife claims there was a little mixed with rain in January of this year.

Our local weather quiz asked last night "what was the highest temperature ever recorded in Eureka?" It was in October of 1993, 87 degrees.

I like it here.

We had about 7 inches in January this year, but nothing since. Today, it was bright and sunny with highs around 62. Calling for the mid 70s next week. Ah yes, the tulips are out, birds are building their nests, the cars are covered with pollen, allergies are driving me nuts, and spring is in the air!

I was hoping Spring would come sooner than this. Days have been fairly warm, around 50 degrees. Our night time temps have fallen into the 20's.

Where are you SPRING?

Bob, Spring is hanging out in Key West. I was just there -- daytime in the lower 80's, nights in the 70's.

I'm back in TN now, where it's 68 and raining (again).
