Prayers and Postcards for John Gaskill - 03/01/03 07:04 PM
John Gaskill is the son of the last civilian keeper at Bodie Island Lighthouse, Vernon Gaskill.
If you took any of the lighthouse bus tours during the 1998 Providence Reunion, you probably met John. During the recent summers, he has often spent time on the porch at the Bodie Island Lighthouse keepers home sharing his memories with visitors.
Cheryl Roberts told me today that John, who turned 87 last week, is now living at the US Naval Home in Gulfport MS. His health is not good, but she has hopes that he will be able to again share his stories during the summer at Bodie.
If you have a spare lighthouse postcard or two, how about sending them to John with good wishes and encouragement?
