Prayers for my Mother-in-Law, Phyllis Yike

Prayers for my Mother-in-Law, Phyllis Yike - 01/02/03 06:16 PM

My mother-in-law arrived here on Dec 17th, her 80th birthday, to spend the holidays with us.

Unfortunately on Dec 28, we had to take her to the emergency room due to GI problems. She has been hospitalized since then. It now looks like she will have a bowel resection operation Friday morning and will probably spend another 7-10 days post-surgery in the hospital.

Your thoughts and prayers for Phyllis will be appreciated.

John,

Our prayers will be with your mother-in-law and for your family as well. When a loved one is hospitalized, the whole family needs prayers as they see this through. I'll ask for a very special blessing to be sent her way.

Your Mother in law will be in our thoughts and prayers. This is the same surgury my wife and mother in law just recently had and both came thru the surgury just fine. My mother in law had almost no pain at all the day following the sugury.

A new Doc has entered the picture and says she should hold off on the surgery for a few days and let the antibiotics have a longer chance to work.

So no surgery on Friday, and they'll look at her again on Monday. In the meantime, she's still hospitalized.

Thanks for your well-wishes.

John,

Phyllis and the Chidesters will be in our prayers. Looking at the positive side, she is fortunate to have you and Suzie with her during this time.

Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law's medical problems, JC. Both Lorna & I wish her the best and a very speedy recovery.

Things happen as we age and not all medical problems are confined to the elderly. Modern medicine works miracles and we all should feel fortunate that we have good health when we do.

My Dad turns 86 on Ground Hog's Day. I just took him down to the local GM Dealer yesterday to pick up his new Buick Century. He's a very good and capable driver at his age. Things like that didn't happen fifty years ago.

Our best to your family and especially to Phyllis.

Thanks for the prayers and thoughts...

They decided NOT to do the operation. I don't have the full report yet. But they are focusing on controlling her blood pressure and doing some OT. She'll probably be in the hospital another 5-7 days. Been 8 so far.

It's now been two weeks since she was admitted. Wonderful care. She has been in terrible pain in her hands, feet and joints until just yesterday. They began treatment with Vioxx and that has been a miracle cure for the pain. She was actually smiling when I visited her yesterday.

She's also been able to begin some Occupational and Physical Therapy.

She said today that the doctor told her she'd probably be there another week. We shall see.

We'll take that as a positive, John. Glad to hear that Phyllis is making progress and that they have helped relieve some of her pain. Will be sure to keep her in our prayers.

After three weeks and one day at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Phyllis came home today. Thanks so much for your prayers and thoughts for her and us.

We expect she'll be staying with us for some additional weeks rather than returning home to Bettendorf IA.

John,
You and your family will be in our prayers for continued success in her recovery. A word of warning from a nurse though...Vioxx has a tendancy to cause GI bleeding, make sure she follows the instructions on her perscription to the letter. God Bless You All
