Walkin'

Walkin' - 10/16/01 06:13 AM

Today was a GREAT day for me. I walked without assistance for the first time since the motor scooter accident on June 25th that left me with a shattered tibia plateau. It's not much of a walk yet, but to me it's like FLYING! I have several more months of rehab, but it's all downhill from here.

It's been a fairly long haul, but my wife Claudia gave me such terrific care and support that it made it an experience instead of an ordeal.

Warmest thanks again to those who sent their kind wishes in July. Maybe I'll see some of you at the Northeast Regional. Just look for the guy who walks like Grandpa McCoy.

Now, which lighthouse staircase shall I try first?

Hi Bruce it's a great feeling all right I am on a cane part time and will be on it full time soon I hope.I hope to drive to tampa next month to see BY at the club meeting if you have the will you will make it.My doctor told me you will have some hard times but I think you are stubborn enough to make it.May god be with pushing you along each step and I will be praying for you also.I personally know exactly what you are going through.I had a stroke and heart attack the first of August and came out withmy left leg and arm paralyzed but both are doing better now.My prayers are wiyh you to be better soon.Bill O'Brien oseabee

Congratulations on that first step, Bruce! So glad that you are back to the point where you will be able to walk. Enjoy the regional, and good luck with your therapy (some of those physical therapists can be real, shall we say, challenging!)

Congratulations Bruce!! I kinda know what it's like to be able to walk again or use your arm again for the first time. So much we take for granted. Good luck in rehab. They'll be moving you in ways you never thought you could move.

It's funny you never realize how the loss of something you take forgranted will really affect you till it happens to you. That 1 step was probably the best feeling you will ever have.BillO'Brien
