Grand Opening Special - 08/09/04 01:28 AM

I am extremely happy to have been selected to moderate this Forum also. Ships in the Navy and boats in the Coast Guard have always been my favorite subject(even over lighthouses) and to also have been given my second choice with this Forum is fantastic. I just recently posted pictures of the glass case that I made for the 175' Keeper Class WLB George Cobb. Earlier today I posted dimensions and instructions on how to build the glass cases for all the Anchor Bays that did not come with the glass cases that the earlier Anchor Bays came with. If you look at the pictures that were posted of the glass case that I built, you will also see a plate with the same information that came with the earlier Anchor Bays.

As a Grand Opening Special I will be more then willing to go to the trophy store where I get my plates made and have them make some for you if you want me to. The plates are made of a layered material that looks like brass but is attached to a plastic backing. It is engraved with the normal information that the earlier Anchor Bays came with and has a replica of the Anchor Bay logo on it. Some examples of the information that I have on several of the plates that I have made are:

LIGHTSHIP
"Nantucket"
0112/4000

or

LIGHTSHIP
"Relief"
2004 Event Exclusive

or

USCGC TYBEE
"110' Island Class WPB"
0112/4000

The cost of these plates are $16.00 ea and that includes shipping. You would have to allow 2-4 weeks after I receive your payment(money order perferred) and once you receive the finished plate it is yours with no refunds. I will give you my word that the plate will be as good as any of the ones I had made for me and it will have the exact information that you want on it as long as it doesn't exceed three lines and has the same amount of information as the sample above show. I will not send it to you if it isn't perfect. The plate will come with a 2-sided sticky tape on it for attaching to any smooth surface.

This is an offer that I'm not making a penny on and if you want to have them made at your trophy shop instead I will be glad to furnish you with any information I have on making them.

Rich,
Congratulations and thanks for taking on this responsibility.
I am not into the AB's myself but I am going to order the "Eagle" and will probably take you up on your plate offer when I recieve it. Hope that won't be to late and that you will post if it becomes to late.
I'm sure you will be a great leader of this forum.

Gee, Rich, I thought maybe your Grand Opening Special was going to be you making display cases for the first 10 people to post. . . . . . you know, practice makes perfect.

I think many folks will benefit from the groundwork you have done in building the display cases, especially with your detailed instructions and pictures added in.

I know you will do a great job keeping things lively here in AB-land.

Rick,
As long as I'm alive and kicking the offer stands on getting the plates for anyone out there that wants them.

Dave,
The first ten cases went like a wildfire. I hate to tell you but you're #11 and you'll have to make your own.

Bob,
It's required by Coast Guard regulations that all Coasties be at least 6' tall so if we do fall out of our "boats" we can walk ashore. That's where the term "Shallow Water Sailors" came from.

Congratulations, Rich. Did you mention once that you made the dimensions available for the glass cases or that you make and sell them? We sure would like one for the Lightship Relief. Any suggestions? Judy

Congratulations on being the new Cruise Director of at least two forums that I know of. I'll be sending you an email as I would like to get a plate done for the "Nantucket Lighthip". I printed out the direction for the glass case that you put on the forums and am looking forward to putting one together.

Re: Grand Opening Special - 08/12/04 01:41 AM

Bill and Judy,
If you look at the next post down on this Forum you will find the dimensions for all the Anchor Bays that did not come with glass cases. The simplist way to get a glass case for the Relief is to simply shop around for a discounted Cheasapeake, Huron or Portsmouth and use that glass case. You can order the brass plate from me with the information for the Relief on it. The other way is to make a glass case with my directions and buy a finished base or finish one yourself. Hobby stores have all different shape and size bases or you can make one yourself if you have woodworking tools. There are all kind of possibilities.

Rich,
Thanks for your reply. We'll check your directions. Bill is good with wood working so I'll see if he wants to tackle that project.
It really is too bad Y&A stopped doing the glass cases. Guess they were too expensive and not enough profit.

If anybody is interested in a lookalike brass plate I will be ordering for my Eagle and for some other forum members in about 3 weeks. If you want me to order for you let me know ASAP and the cost is $16.00 by money order.
