Historical Ships

With this battle ship experience that Harbour Lights got from making the Taney maybe HL will try more of the WWII ships. Not sure the demand or how many are all ready out there. I know when my dad was alive he belonged to WWII clubs of different ships he served on. He even started one for a LST and as far as I know it is still out there. Probably if HL would start making old Navy ships it should go under a different line like HS for Historical Ships. This way they could cover all ships of the Navy from civil war to WWII . Maybe bring out one, once a year opposite an Anchor Bay.

I would be all for non Coast Guard ships, as long as they are under a different line then Anchor Bay.

The idea of Navy, Civil War, or even the USS Constitution as replicas would be great. As long as they are under a different line. The HS prefix would be perfect.

I hope we see a Anchor Bay release every year. My hope was an yearly alternation of USCG ships and lightships.

A lightship is long over due.

This is a great idea that Daniel has brought up. I still feel that CG ships should be made under the Anchor Bay Line along with Lightships. A new line of Navy ships, commercial ocean liners, Great Lakes cargo ships, Civil War ships and sailing ships could come under this new line.

I would love to see this happen but it would have to be supported by someone without 7 full size curios in my den. I'm out of room now and we are planning to downsize in a year or so.

There were 5 NAVY Lightships during the Big War WWII!!!!

I seem to remember hearing that some of the lightships had guns mounted on them.
Not sure if it was WWI or WWII. Would they have been the Navy Lightships?

Add me to the list. I didn't know there were Navy Lightships, I thought all Lightships fell under the justisdiction of the Coast Guard.

I personlly would like to see a couple of the Navy ships made. How about the U.S.S. Missouri? Or the Ranger - the last non-nuclear aircraft carrier.

If I remember correctly the U.S. Coast Guard falls under the Navy during wartime and during peacetime now is under Homeland Security. Does anyone remember what department the U.S. Coast Guard was under prior to the formation of Homeland Security?

The USS Arizona would be a nice one.

They were under the Dept. of Transportation before Homeland Security and before the Dept. of Transportation, they were under the Dept. of Treasury.

To expand on what RIP was talking about. I think the seven temporary Navy Lightships during WW I from 1918 to 1919 would be a good candidate. I think a good one would be either the Boston or the Charleston which were both Navy tugboats. I bet it would be hard to find pictures of these.

Don't know what happened to my post. Daniel, in it, I said I was glad you had posted the WWI lightship info since my grandfather came back from France via New York. I commented that maybe he saw either the USS Finch or USS Cardinal or both. Nice bit of trivia for me. My grandfather, like me, grew up just a few miles from the lighthouse at Point Isabel.

There is one lighthouse ship at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. I may have missed it, but does HL or did HL have this Lighthouse ship in its inventory?

It was the first lightship Harbour lights made.

There was two versions made;
A special edition that retired in April 1997 and and a open edition that retired in Oct 1998.

You can do an request on the Harbour Light website to see if any dealers still have one.
ALso you can post on the trading post that you are looking for one.

I'm really looking forward to the release of the Lightship Overfalls.

I've been hoping for a lightship release this year.

I agree with you, Loon. We were overdue for another Anchor Bay Lightship. LS Overfalls is a worthy choice. It should be a good seller.
