Just recieved my society pieces. I think both of them are great. Fishing Battery is a throw back to the old standard size of LE lighthouses and is just right for me.Old Portland Head is sized right and the two large boats in front make the piece pop.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 06/15/11 11:20 PM

I also received my pieces today applaud applaud 2 very nice pieces and I'm especially partial to Maine lights!
A QUESTION: as a result of several hospital and rehab stays over the last several years I have not kept up with what I have and do not have! I know there were no Cloissone Pins included w/the Society pieces for a few years, but I am not sure exactly when! The last one I know I have is the 2004 10th Anniversary Pin! Can some one please post in what years there were no pins, when did they start issuing them again and which pins they are???
Needlesss to say I have also lost track of my Collectors Society Guide frustrated frustrated
Thank you,
Rick

The Society Pieces finally hit Southern California today! Just received mine, and I couldn't be happier with them. They are awesome! One needs no magnifier to see the details on them, either! BIG HAPPY FACE!

Did anyone who actually went on the cruise receive their set of Alaska Reunion Pieces? I know I did not!

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 06/29/11 08:11 PM

I have not received mine yet, but based on what I've read the cruise pieces can not be sent out until all the signatures (Bill, Nancy, Harry) are completed.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 06/29/11 10:28 PM

I would like to know what constitutes a signature.... cause I received (3) stickers with my pieces that consisted of the 20 Anniversary logo on it and an original signature from B. Younger, N. Younger, and H. Hines on each sticker.

The intent is, I guess, to place the sticker on the bottom of the piece? This is a little different that signatures done in the past, but it is still a nice touch.

Perhaps the "Cruise" pieces will get the actual signatures on the felt bottom of the each piece rather than a sticker.

After reading all the posts on this topic, I believe I received my pieces quicker than others based on the fact that they were shipped and packaged with my 2011 Society pieces to save on shipping costs, not to mention my usual autoship number.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 06/30/11 01:33 AM

CAVR--could you also please post the information you shared above about the
Alaska Reunion pieces you received in the "2011 Alaska Reunion Cruise-Re: HL collectables at the Reunion" thread in the Events section of the CF?

Maybe you could also share when you ordered and what number(s) you received.

I would assume having the cruise pieces "signed by the Youngers and Harry" would bring to mind signatures signed on the actual base of the pieces, not on a sticker.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 06/30/11 05:06 PM

I find it interesting that I went on the cruise, order my pieces well before the cruise, already received by society pieces, but have not received the AK pieces, but Christopher got them all in one box even though he did not attend the reunion. He also mentions that he has a "special number" which I assume means he is on autoship with a low number. I don't think that should make a difference. If a person did not attend the cruise, they should not be receiving their AK pieces before attendees, and I won't even begin to discuss the piece numbers.

Did you order the society and AK pieces at the same time? Are you on auto-ship with a low number? Are the stickers just white stickers or do they contain some sort of design along with the signature?

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 06/30/11 07:37 PM

Wow, my name surely is getting "tossed" around a bit..... perhaps I should have not casually shared any information with my fellow collectors.

I would think in a few days others, included those on the cruise, that they will be getting their pieces as well. What ever happened being patient? You heard what Tony C. mentioned in another post about items currently being shipped and employees on vacation.

To answer a few questions:

1) NO, I do not have pieces with a "special number" that was commented above.... I think I said, "my autoship number". Why is my number important anyway? Harbour Lights, my dealer, and several other folks know what number I have as autoship.

2) The stickers provided with the Alaska Set, as I commented before, are white with a colored 20th anniversary logo with the three original signatures signed in ink. Each sticker is meant to be placed on the bottom of each piece.

I guess I don't fully understand the "huff" behind the "on-going" topic of the Alaska Set as I am sure that everyone will eventually get their set(s). Just be gratefully that you will be getting one of Harbour Light's most limited pieces of 360 sets.

Enough said from me on this topic.... I hold my tongue.

Sorry you don't understand the "huff" as you put it.
However, these lights were promoted as EXCLUSIVE to those who went on the cruise and only those people would get them signed. Also attendees were supposed to get the lowest numbers. You did not go on the cruise and apparently not only got yours before many attendees but also got your autoship number and the signatures.
I went on the cruise and purchased the set in good faith. I do not hold it against you personally, but feel very betrayed by Harbour Lights!

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 06/30/11 10:57 PM

That was the point I was trying to make.

Sorry if I used incorrect terminology, when I said "special number" I meant autoship.

I will not post any other comments on this matter.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 07/01/11 04:45 AM

It all boils down to the fact that cruise attendees were sold a bill of goods that were suppose to be "exclusive" and now that "exclusiveness" is available to anyone who wishes whether they were on the cruise or not. I have been with Harbour Lights since the very beginning and have been to every single reunion but based on this integrity issue, HL most likely has lost me as an avid collector and society member.
Posted By: Lighthouse Loon

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 07/01/11 05:05 AM

360 pieces is still rather exclusive even if they are sold to non-cruise attendees. Many who would have been on the cruise but either couldn't get off work, are finacially hit, have medical issues, etc.

I think back in the old days when every HL limited edition sold about 5000-10000 pieces, they could have absorbed the cost and the leftover reunion pieces would have been smashed, but now there having a hard time selling 1200 pieces.

This wouldn't be an issue if all the sets were purchased by those actually on the cruise.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 07/01/11 12:20 PM

These lights may have been envisioned as exclusive when they where first proposed and marketed, but it is apparent to me that for quite awhile Harbour Lights was going to sell the excess to the general public. I got a call from Tony, out of the blue, about a month before the cruise asking me if I would like to purchase the set. I declined because I was not going on the cruise and I had no interest in them, but I was offered them long before they even went on the web.

Seems like we were really duped!
So much for exclusive and getting rid of excess stock after the event!

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 07/01/11 03:47 PM

I've been sitting here reading these comments over the last couple of days (I chimed in once or twice myself) and honestly feel that we are making a "mountain out of a mole hill".

I think Loon put it quite plain when he posted: "360 pieces is still rather exclusive even if they are sold to non-cruise attendees. Many who would have been on the cruise but either couldn't get off work, are finacially hit, have medical issues, etc."

I have been collecting HLs since 1993 and have an entire collection (over 550 pieces with the original 38 variations) thanks to many of the people that I have met either at Southern Regionals, signing events and from these Forums. I have never been to a Reunion. This was not due to finacial reasons as many, but due to my wife's degrading back problems. She can travel but can't sleep in 90% of the beds during these trips. This is why we never spend anywhere overnight. Now I'm not asking for sympathy or for anyone to feel sorry for us, I'm just telling you WHY we never made it to a Reunion. You are asking yourself at this time "why I don't go by myself and leave her home"? There are 2 reasons and they are: 1) We have been together 48 years and we function as one in good and bad times. 2) Several times while at work I got a call from her because her back went out and she couldn't get out of bed or off the couch and I would come home to help her (3 times in an ambulance to the ER). Now, there is NO OPERATION for her condition so that option is out.

So, for those of you that HAD THE PLEASURE OF ATTENDING THIS EXCLUSIVE CRUISE AND HAVE THE MEMORIES FOREVER, please don't begrudge those of us that couldn't attend because of one of Loon's reasons, or for that manner, one that wasn't mentioned.

Whether someone that didn't attend got their exclusive pieces ahead of someone that attended or someone got to buy these pieces even though they didn't attend is going overboard. Even if initially you were promised an excluse set if you attended, we are all collectors or interested in lighthouses for some reason and you should put this to bed as a reason to complain. You knew this would happen in advance and should have been prepared based on the Society Exclusives being sold at discount prices. If I was going on the cruise and had been given the chance to buy one, two or even more sets ahead of the general public, be thankful. Hopefully you took advantage of this oportunity. If you passed on this chance, please don't begrudge the rest of us for buying a set. You had the first crack at buying extras and keeping them out of "our hands". If you really cared about your fellow Forum Members and others interested in lighthouse, you would be happy for us and not acting like you had the "inside track" and only you should have this exclusive set.

I expect to have negative comments on this post and have thought long and hard about even posting this rebuttal, but before you "slam bang" me, think about what Loon said about the reasons that a lot of us did not attend and then think about your good fortune of being able to attend. And one final note to those of you threatening to end it with Harbour Lights: If this is all it takes for you to "pull the plug" and quit collecting, I would sit back and revisit my real interests for why you first started collecting HLs (if you even collect them at all).

IT'S THE COMPANY'S INTEGRITY THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH NOT THE COLLECTIBLE OR LIGHTHOUSES. I will continue to enjoy my Harbour Lights lighthouse collection proudly displayed throughout my entire house, working towards lighthouse preservation and be as actively involved in promoting these national treasures as I always have been.

VERY WELL SAID! My thoughts exsactly!

I will continue to enjoy the collection that I have. I will continue to do what I can for Lighthouse preservation, and continue to join many Lighthouse Associations. But I have bought my last Harbour Light with the purchuse of the 3 Reunion pieces due to the LACK of INTEGRITY by Lighthouse Marketing.

Back on May 5th I started this thread about the new Society Lighthouses and all of the sudden it has turned into a rant on an whole other issue..

I think it is time that the thread got back to my original intention of discussing the new Society Lighthouses..

HL567 Old Portland Breakwater, ME Society Gift Light

I will remove any posts except those about the HL567 and HL568 lighthouses from this point on in this thread..

Those who want to continue to beat a dead horse, about the Reunion Cruise Lighthouses being made available to others than those who went on the cruise; need to take it to the The Fog Signal Building Forum..

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 07/02/11 12:56 AM

The HL568 Fishing Battery, MD piece is nice and hefty! ....reminds me of the Turkey Point LE done a few years ago.

With this basic design, I don't see why a LE replica of the Blackistone, MD couldn't be made, very similar, just different color scheme.

Nice to have a larger piece again... it has been awhile. Looks funny next to the more recent "smaller" HL pieces.

Got an Email last week from HL saying the society piece Old Portland Breakwater is sold out. This is the first time I have ever heard of this happening and with a half of the society year left. Not sure what this says if anything.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 10/03/11 05:22 AM

I received my order two weeks ago. #8 and #9 in HL567 and #8 in HL568. I was very surprised to get single digit numbered pieces having ordered recently.

Re: 2011 Harbour Lights Society Lighthouses - 10/03/11 02:53 PM

As much as I want to make the sellout a positive sign, it probably was only 600 pieces.

My guess is that LHM probably felt the second 600 wouldn't sell too many and decided to leave it at that.

Could also be that all production has been stopped. With all the 2011 pieces only having 600 pieces produced.
